MD Group Ride October 14, 2012

Well, it's starting to get late in the season, so while it's still great riding weather, lets get a group ride in!

Tentative Plan:
Sunday 10/14/12
2pm
Clarksville Park&Ride Starting Point:
http://goo.gl/maps/742mM

Route:
http://goo.gl/maps/rW7Eq

To get to the starting point coming from rt 32, travelling from Columbia, take the exit for rt 108/Clarksville Pike. Make a right at the traffic signal onto rt108. The park and ride will be on your right side immediately after the traffic signal, take the first right to enter the park and ride.

to name a few,
@Old Lemon
@Minikin_Jo
@DennyV
@poyermet
@tony7kp
@subxero
@tnr4
@b4lt1m0re

Let me know if anyone thinks they can make it out. Of course, all are welcome, regardless of what they ride or experience level.

I'll try to get some specifics once I get a little feedback from you all.

I'm in for a ride @ 5, but would have to relatively short (~hour or so) since I have to be somewhere later that night, so I vote Clarksville

I don't think I would do that late in the day. I could maybe stop by at the meet time to get to know fellow Ninjetters, but I'm not a big fan of deer-dodging in the dark, so I'd want to start heading homeward not long after 5. Anyone interested in riding a bit earlier as well, and then meeting up with the group at 5? I know a pretty fun little route around Tridelph Reservoir.

Hmm I would love to ride but 5 pm is kinda late in the day. I'm no early riser but 11-2 or 3 is a good time frame for me. It's warmer, daylight, and gives me time to get grocery shopping done and dinner ready before my kids come home.

I guess I can do 5 but it won't be but a couple of hours of riding. I know you guys don't care about cold but I do and temps drop when the sun sets!

We can meet at the mall, too, doesn't matter to me

I agree earlier is better, I should be available after 2pm. Mall is fine takes me 15-20min to get there.

I work both Sat and Sun this weekend till late count me out. But like Tnr4 said watch out for the wild life, I saw a total of 12 deer just today on way home from work. Funny to that they were not scared by any cars but when i drove by on my bike they took off.

I definitely need to make a group ride before season is over

I can do 1, but Aaron said he can't make it until 2, and I don't wanna' hijack Rob's ride. But if Rob still wants to get a group at 5, I'm happy to go out at 1 or 2, and then meet up with those folks at 5 also (lol, I ride a lot).

My wife can leave the shower early and be homearound 1:30 so I can be at the mall at 2'ish, the perhaps I'll join Rob's ride for some of that too depending on my back

Seems the general consensus is early Sunday afternoon? 2pm could work. So, is Columbia best for everyone as a meeting spot?

I work on Sundays usually until 3ish, so that's why I tried later, that's when most of my rides are anyway, but someone at work owes me a favor so I could do this earlier in the day....

edit: sorry for the late reply, my email didn't get any notifications for this until just now.

That was an area I was thinking about, but I don't know those roads very well, if you know them, then this would work nicely. Reservoirs are usually the best places to ride.

I'm down for 2, and I'd be happy to lead around Tridelph. I don't really know how you all tend to ride, but I'm sure I could figure out the pace and adjust accordingly. I'll post up a map of my typical route in a bit.

So here is a little lap that I run pretty regularly. It's about 40 miles, takes me about an hour. Not super technical, but not much traffic and nice scenery. A good route if there will be any beginners with us. The start and end point are at an Exxon station, which could be a good meet up/gas up point.

http://goo.gl/maps/E8CMR

If people were wanting a longer ride, we could either do this + something else, or we could run it both directions (I always run it counter-clockwise, but I'm sure switching it up makes it a whole new road).

I'm not married to this, but willing to lead if there is a general will. Just let me know.

Well, I know there will at least be one rider who is relatively new and inexperienced and in general, it'll probably be a slower pace. If there's anyone interested in taking a run at a specific section at a higher pace, I'm sure we can manage that.

As for the route, it looks good.

Since, I imagine most people will be coming off of rt32, I know of a good meeting spot right off the exit of 108, and we can ride south on 108, take the right at Ten Oaks towards Brighton Dam rd and continue your route from there, perhaps?

Sounds good to me. Can you post a map with a pin in the meeting location? Sounds like good launching-off point.

I'm in.

And I'm not an insane rider. I still consider myself 'new' as I've only got 1600 miles under my belt and I've had my bike since April. I know a lot of you do that much in a week.

Greg has a zx14 but he's not crazy either, he's pretty laid back but he will play sometimes. Lately on our rides he usually keeps to the rear behind everyone anyways.

I don't really like anyone riding behind me, I have this thing called "personal space" I don't like anyone imposing on. I get pretty territorial, and if I see you in my mirrors sneaking up into my space I will go left or right to reclaim it - so if you're passing just pass me in my lane I can watch for that and that's not a problem at all but if you're just riding behind me please don't try to get beside me.

Route with start/end location edited

I couldn't figure out how to pin the start location in the map route so here it is separately pinned.

http://goo.gl/maps/742mM

The info at the top will be updated and basic directions to the meeting point will be given.

I think I can do 2. I have lunch with someone but not sure what time that'll go to. I'll try to make sure it ends by then. So are we not meeting at Columbia Mall anymore?

I'm guessing it'll be a slow pace for me as well. Never been on that road before and I never rode in a group before, so I'm sure I'll be taking it easy.

I've only done about 750mi total much of it highway, also I've never done a group ride before. Bu if I fall off the pace go on without me, I don't mind. I love the ten oaks/Brighton dam ride in my car and did part of it last Saturday on the bike but took the curves quite slow.

I may bring a friend along, he's not a ninjette rider but....

Well we have no intentions of placing you in an environment in which you are not comfortable. If at any time you don't feel comfortable with this ride, let us know, seriously, group rides can be a little intimidating early on.

As for your friend, that's fine by me, curious, what does he ride?

You make me want to slit my wrists. Ride in a group man, it's way more enjoyable.

Like I said above, done under 800 miles and to work and back is 70mi round trip, so.... I'm working on scheduling more time for groups but life is busy.

Understandable. Make time for it! Soon! We're not Califags with a year round riding season!
