1000 miles in 24 hours on a ninja 250?

Has anyone considered attempting this? http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/ge...nt.cfm?DocID=1

It sounds to be a pretty tough challenge, I may be interested in attempting this once I have been riding for awhile... and have 2 days (counting in sleep) of no obligations.

riding on the bigisland, which is HUGE compared to kauai, gave me a 'in bigtime!

rode this older model buell for a day, and i swear i felt like i sat on a piece of 2x4 lumber for 14 hrs.

Having driven the car for 1000 miles in one go, around 15 hours I would say don’t bother, the minimum would be severe case of monkey but.

I'd imagine the whole body would be sore. Wouldn't be a nice experience.

Here's a complete ride report of a guy who did the 50cc (coast to coast in 50hrs) IBC on a first gen 250.

Iron butt indeed.

This is the highest challenge that the IBC offers and awards. With the right seat and mindset, it shouldn't be a problem.

Here's a complete ride report for the someone that did the challenge you're talking about - the SaddleSore 1000.

SaddleSore is a good term for this.

I didn't read much of that link, but my friend got his IronButt cert by traveling all the way around lake Michigan in 24 hours. He did it on his Triumph Speed/Street Triple (not sure the difference, or which he has).

I don't think I could do it on my '08... not yet at least

Over on the other ninja 250 forum, several guys have done the iron butt rides and post their ride reports/updates etc.. I wouldn't mind trying some of them myself.

I've completed a number of them, but not on a Ninja 250. One of them was on a ZX-12R though, which in all likelihood was less suited to it comfortwise than our ninjettes. Some 24 hr rallies (like this one) will qualify you for the Saddlesore certificate as well; if you complete the base route you will have done 1000+ miles within a 24 hr period, and the rally organizer sends that confirmation directly to Mike Kneebone at the IBR.

I like touring, but when I tour it tends to be a much more casual pace, say 300 - 350 miles per day. I figure after about five or six hours of riding, I'm ready to get off the bike for the afternoon and spend some time hiking around by foot.

Trying to grind out a thousand miles a day doesn't actually sound like much fun to me...

I would do this, but I'm not paying someone like 60 bucks to get a plate frame and a certification saying that I did it...

I'd just take pics and share...

I've got two other bikes that I've toured with and I've had many 700-800 mile enjoyable day rides. However, the Ninjette seat literally kicks my ass after about 200 miles. The suspension is stiff and I feel the shock of the bumps. It's too lean forward for me but I plan to fix that with one inch risers. I bought the bike for commuting to work and its my bike of choice for that. But I'd have to do seat and suspension mods to be happy on extended rides. Cheers, Bill

1000 miles in 24hrs..... thats like 41-42 mph. You could do 80 & have time to rest.

If it was on the R1, I would have to go allot faster..... so I wouldnt cramp up < 7.6 hrs.

Once you start going over 12 hours, averaging 50+ mph over that time period gets more challenging than you'd think. Stop for 15 minutes for fuel and a snack, and watch what that does to your overall average, it's pretty surprising. Doing a saddlesore (1000+ miles in 24 hrs) on the freeway exclusively can be done in 16 or 17 hours without too much trouble, true, but it sure isn't fun. Any decent 24 hr rally is going to keep you off the highways as much as possible, and doing 1000+ miles of twisty roads in 24 hrs is a bit more interesting...

seeing as how riding in a manner that pushed my physical limits majorly contributed to be putting my bike down - I would say no, not on the 6r

i use to know a guy that did a lot of IBI stuff on a gsxr1000. he might be able to keep a higher average speed than the 250, but i'm sure its not as comfortable to ride.

i think it'd be pretty hard, but also very rewarding. i'd go for it if you're up for it. do a lot of research and preparation.

from my 4.5 hour trip experience, i find that i'd just need a knee brace.
my back was fine, my butt was manageable, my neck was fine, wrist ok from crampbuster. left knee gave me some trouble.

i think i'm ready to cover 2400 miles in few days...

I probably couldn't do this on a new gen though.

My first day on the bike I did 657mi to get it home (Aug '08). I got it serviced, rode it 30mi to work, and then crossed 1,000mi the next day of riding.

In November, I got my 4,000mi service a bit early so I could cross the country. Did it in a few days back in December (moved from GA to CA). I took the long way, so it was about 2,600mi.

I've left it parked for a few weeks because I'm at 7,6XXmi and I don't have the money for my 7,500mi service interval.

noneless the fact that the speed limit here is 50 miles an hour. 1200 miles if your riding straight without filling up gas unless you grinb a friend along with like 24 extra gallons of fuel and pulling some stunt like refueling airplanes in mid flight /ridicule. *wonders if cops got a clip of the whole 24 hours if they'd try and charge you*. I'll try and put as much miles as I can on the next bike I get which should be in a year or so when I pay off this one. strap a pillow to my ass and run back and forth at mana'a stretch /ridicule. go take a week vacation so i can catch up on sleep.

I've crossed the country again recently and did it in under two days. I didn't sleep, but I did it! That's easily more than 1,000 in 24 hours.

It might be smarted to actually ride the bike and do it a little late, then to deliberately sit for weeks on end. The valves aren't hooked up to the odometer, they won't break just because the bike rolled over 7500...

Like Alex already pointed out, it could be tough going all twisties, but if the route is major highways, I don't see it being a problem. My wife, a friend, and I recently put 260+ miles on in eight hours of nothing but twisties during a trip to the north Georgia mountains. That included several stops for gas, lunch, stretching, and a bit of shopping.

So, yeah, given the right roads, 1,000 miles could be completed easily in 24 hours even with time for breaks. As far as comfort, that is a personal issue, but the Ninjette has a reasonable seating position, though it lacks in padding.

I actually just completed the SS1K this past saturday, not on the 250, but on my connie. I'm not sore at all and I wish I could have talked my dad into going another 400 miles to get the BB1500. It took us approx 18 hours to complete, it would have been faster, but we had a guy on a 84 nighthawk 750 that had to stop every 120 miles for gas. Next year I'll prob try the BB1500 on my 250.

I've done ten or so IBA rides on my '05 Ninja 250. The two I enjoyed the most were:

BBG (1,500+ miles in under 24hrs):
