07 Ninja Rear Wheel Adjustment Issue
Hello all, first i am sorry if there is a thread about this as i am unable to find it, so...
T all started when i had my back tire replaced... the bike would drift to the left if i didnt give it any input... i brought it up to other riders and a Mech. and they thought i was losing it. Today. i went to tighten my chain and realized the right side tensioner was lose, so bad that it had spun upwards making my back tire go in a slight downward right angle. AHA! found that problem. I know I should have noticed this before but... SOO! I got my chain back to spec, (if 40mm is spec? if not, better then 2 1/2" *cough* ) and i went for a ride. As soon as i hit my back brake i felt a shift in the bike. I pulled over and looked and my rear wheel and the axle/tension assembly shifted back a whole notch on the right side (the notches for adjustment) and every time i put it back, when i hit the brake it slides backwards again. Any Idea how to fix this?? |

Pictures are worth 1000 words. If you can take pics of both sides of the axle, it would help a lot to see if parts are missing.
might just be the axle nut isn't tight enough too.

i tried tightening it and it just spins for days. ill try to get a couple clear pics.

You have to hold the other end while you tighten the nut. Unless you mean the nut is stripped??

nope, just didnt hold the other side lol, couldnt even if i wanted to as i was on the side of the road with very limited tools. Cant believe i didnt think of that. Going to log in with my phone and upload some pictures.

That chain is about junk. Once they're rusted like that (rusty colored powder in the pics) it's only matter of time. Clean it with WD40 and a brush then lube it. Check for kinked links that don't want to straighten out. If you have any, it's time to replace it. Also, the adjusters are pretty far out, which is an indication the chain is slightly too long or has stretched too much due to age and wear. Tighten it up and see what happens.

Nothing other than the axle nut being loose (probably). Nothing looks to be out of place.

Well i went out, pulled the pin, tightened the axle nuts and repinned it. I then booted up the bike and tried it out. didnt move! Is it safe to safe that it was put back together loose from the person that put the new tire on??
and thanks motofool! i didnt torque it, i just used the "thats about right" method lol. ill go at it tomorrow with the TW. Thank you guys! Dont know how i didnt think of any of this but ive very little experience working on bikes so i dont want to mess anything up lol. Ill be back again with my engine tick questions later on in another thread if i dont find one on here that helps. (cam chain tensioner is what ive got out of it so far) Thanks!!! |

Probably. The axle nut is what holds the axle and wheel in place. The adjusters are just used to pull things into place while you tighten the axle down.

yeah, i had to talk them into doing it. they didnt want to touch my bike because it wasent a honda and they just kept saying "We only work on hondas". It was either that or take a LONG ride just for a tire.
