It would probably take around 2 hours to get to the meet point. Not sure if it would be worth it for you. Although, we would be passing through livermore so you could take I-5 home. Long ride for you.

Hi Ed, I am coming from the east bay, the El Cerrito/Berkeley area, where on the east bay are you coming from?

Hi Ed, I saw that you have right around 100 miles of experience. Maybe a little more past this weekend.

Have you taken the MSF course yet or have your M1?

I would be more than happy to go cruise around with you around San Leandro sometime just so that you get more comfortable on the bike. I'm free most weekends and I love riding slowly around towns.

I was able to find a video clip of this ride up to the observatory on YouTube. After watching it, I am not sure that I would recommend this ride until you have more seat time with your bike. I am absolutely sure that we will be taking it slow but that road up still looks a bit challenging.

Haha that video looks awfully like the video I recorded of my ride except I never uploaded it.

Actually, I think this ride could be super fun. Stay in 2nd gear and practice low speed maneuvers. The first half is tight but the 2nd half from Lick to Livermore is plenty wide and the best part is there is little to no traffic the whole way.

Dont worry, we'll be going slow but even if you fall behind, no worries because we'll wait for everybody at the observatory and there really isnt any alternative route you could go so it's not like you'll get lost if you fall behind.

Hey Ed,

I'll be going to the meet, so if you need someone to ride with, I'm in Union City and can come meet you in SL. Best advice I can give you is to "just do it." Take your bike on the freeway and get off on the next exit. That should give you a taste of what it's like. Stay calm, relaxed, and focused. Also wear ear plugs.

I sent him a PM yesterday or the day before seeing if he wants to meet up somewhere before meeting up with you Tri and then head down. I haven't gotten a response yet tho.

Confirmed.

Edit: Tri has asked if I could move the meeting time to 10am instead of 9am so that he can escort a few riders to the meeting location. I think I will arrive to Evergreen Donuts and get breakfast around 9am. Everybody is welcome to arrive up till 10am and then we'll head out. Objections?

Eugene, there's a new rider I'm meeting along your route down. If you want to meet in Palo Alto, that's fine with me. We can meet at the Starbucks down there around 9:30am.

Starbucks

Palo Alto, CA 94303

Sweet. I like how there's a 2ndary meet point. Keeps the group together. I should mention that I'd prefer earlier the better purely because it's a fairly long ride and there is no "stretch" that you can speed up to save time. It will take as long as it takes but riding on an hungry is not fun. On that same note, it wouldnt hurt to bring snacks and DEFINITELY some water. We'll regroup and relax at the top.

Well, if you remember the MSF video, you're supposed to eat a full breakfast before you head out . I'll bring some granola bars though and a bottle of water.

Yea but concentrating on riding uses up a ton of energy and sometimes even a full breakfast wont do it for me.

Be there by 9 if you want to take a coffee/smoke break. It takes 25-30 minutes from there to the main meet up point. I'm going to be there by 9 and I believe Tina is as well.

I rode thru Mines Rd. yesterday.

It was pretty clean, a few small rocks here and there.

The "Junction" is a good place to pull over for rest. There's food/drinks and a restroom.

You guys will have Fun!! Enjoy!!
