I'm usually the opposite... I usually prefer to do rides on Sat because I can generally spend more time because I don't have to worry about getting up early the next day... but this time I have the baseball game to go to...lol.

The funny thing about GMR is the first time you go it's tough because you're just getting used to the roads and the turns....takes about 5+ times there to really appreciate it.

GMR is the holy grail around here. You won't regret taking a ride on it.
(or maybe you will?) Palomar is a good run, but GMR is better. If Palomar was better I would admit it, as I am in the middle of both and would go there more. If you go from Azusa to the lake then down GMR, back up GMR to baldy and down baldy like me, you'll be dead when you are done and pretty amazed at the roads back there. Take a headman or a guide. ACH is nice and long and FAAAAAAAAAAAAAST. First time I dragged knee at 80mph was up there and I was all alone 40 Mi into the forest. Scary. Me no like. Lots of debris too at 80mph on your knee spells disaster. GMR is great and if you're up there and crash all you have to do is coast back down to the city. They got rid of a lot of guard rails in good places too so you can actually have some fun without worry on some spots. They keep the roads well up there and sweep during the week. Ride it once to make sure it's clean and then cut loose. I'd go with you guys but I gotta dodge the cops a bit longer. hehe I have to go on Thursdays when it's 200 degrees outside so I'm the only one on the hill.

Buckle up Alex. Make sure you go through the 12 mile one lane portion to Baldy. My Fav. The difference is you'll see the turns coming on Palomar. GMR and GRR have several sleepers. There is one near the one lane 12mi portion near the top that gets me every time. I don't know what it is. every other turn on that hill one and two lane portion I take with confidence but that once scares the hell out of me every time. It always comes when you least expect it no matter how many times you ride that hill backwards to baldy. Every time I have done it.

As for ACH- you are so right- 80 mph sweepers with your knee down and someting goes wrong - uhh ohh!!! GMR is a 25-40 mph turns....good on the straight aways at some points but mostly tight turns....better be looking ahead as well. I miss it already |

I laid it down on a super technical bumpy road in my hometown that I've only known my whole life on every vehicle I owned. lol I have the garage to handle tech days! I can install gear gauges too if wanted. They work! I'm working on getting a 54t sprocket and chain on my bike now. More cornering acceleration and stunts! Who needs to go above 80mph anyways. Then I'm gonna strip her nekkid to lose a shitload of weight and use the iphone for a dashboard. I'll be able to crash it as I please without doing anything to it and stunts will be cakewalk. 10mph wheelies in the front yard. Also let me know if anyone has a crashed/rashed slip-on. I need a beater. Not going to stunt my yosh on a bendy frame.

I've been meaning to get with you... you have done valve adjustments for other members right? I just passed up 7,500 miles and wanted to get this done... should I shoot you a PM instead to discuss details? Thanks in advance for the assistance with this!!!

KC you were working on custom gauges, right? did you ever finish them? i need to get a speedometer set up for my fzr but i'm cheap and want to go custom... what do you think? i'm thinking just a hall effect coil on the fork with a magnet on the wheel leading into filter cap to smooth the voltage pickup into an ADC into a PIC with 2x 7-seg displays... your gear indicator runs on a PIC right? do you have spares you want to get rid of?

I can make anything, it's just a matter of time and cooperation and determination. Seriously.
I did finish the gear gauge. I got sidetracked on the shift light they wanted added but haven't finished that yet. I really do end up doing all kinds of different hobbies here and there. I can actually install working gear gauges with the parts installed for that when I upgrade the program it will do the shift light too. I need all kinds of time to do that. If you have your bike here for a day or two or just come by once in a while I can work with you on putting things on. that's all there is to it.. I just don't weld, go inside engine heads or trany stuff. I haven't played with it enough to say I'm qualified to do so. Valve job has proven to be fairly straight forward process. My gauges run on Atmel and are programmed in C. I can lead you to the processors I use and the programming package if you'd like to play with them at the processor level. ($5 and $100 respectively) I also have breakout boards I custom made for this chip. I design the PCB's they go on. I still have more work to do on the shift light. There's nice people on the atmel forums willing to help 100% even when I get stuck. I just don't have much time. Maybe soon. Here is where I left off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RYxhOxiFAY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEPnuXgm1JE

They are on ebay for about $4 each. Atmel Mega 8 processor, in 32 pin MLF package. (Micro lead frame... I solder SMT by hand to build these)
I work straight from a tiny SMT processor level and input code through in system programmable flash memory. I have been needing to order more to populate the gear gauge PCB's. I have everything else but the switches I mount on the bike to sense the shift. There is also a neutral line tap. with removable connector. A few trips over to my house one day at a time and I could have each of you using gear displays in no time. We need to ride over and get switches then dremel you up some brackets and drop your fairings and install some wires in your harness to make everything a reality, but it's perfectly doable in small steps for those that cannot leave their bike for a few days at a time. It's sort of hard for me to produce an all in one package for you guys, just being one guy with a very limited budget and all! Bring your bikes by in stages like I do with Adrian and you'll see how I can work with you. I don't really mind if you sit right there and watch me fondle your machine. I can show how I did the entire gauge and just how much work I have actually put into the gauge itself and the program. I sound pretty weird on video too so shouldnt be like that in person haha I've been begging for somebody to bring a bike by for me to do a video of the valve job and also a gauge install on their bike but nobody can leave it here locked up in the garage. They can take the key(s)!

I was told that once I finish the shift light I will know RPM.
Since I know what gear I am in already with the gear gauge I can use RPM vs gear to figure out speed. If I add a small LCD I could have a total replacement dash system on my hands. attach a gps module and I have the works. etc etc. Bike automatically Gps record and post to google maps... whatever. Just not enough time to work on it. I have done so much already and I get burned out easy. I go in spurts!

So what is the technical difficulty of Palomar and GMR? I'd love to find time to join you guys (though I work a lot on the weekends so it may be hard) but I'm not sure if I'm ready or not. What's the deal?
