THE National Motorcycle Museum will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with a range of special events.

The venue plans to launch a pop-up art gallery in June called 'A celebration of the Motorcycle' which will run until October. There are also plans to show live motorcycle racing, including the UK round of MotoGP and World Superbikes

Since opening 30 years ago, the museum has grown from a private collection of 200 motorbikes into the largest motorcycle museum in the world, with a collection of 950 machines and over 250,000 visitors each year. It suffered a devastating fire in 2003 in which many motorcycles were lost, including some of the only remaining models to exist.

The 30th anniversary events will come to a head at Christmas where the museum will host 1980s-themed parties.

Nick Hartland, director of the National Motorcycle Museum, said: "The motorcycle industry is one of Britain’s great engineering achievements and we are pleased that we are able to share its history while providing event organisers with a truly unique venue."
