BMW Launches New C 400 X Scooter

BMW taps into the mid-sized scooter segment with all new premium model.

A manufacturer’s success is dependent on staying relevant and knowing how to adapt to a constantly evolving market. This can be seen in BMW’s recent entry-level lineup of motorcycles and scooters, which are both handsome and readily accessible to new riders. After the success of the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT, BMW Motorrad decided to take things one step further by unveiling the new 350cc C 400 X Scooter.

BMW’s newest scooter was designed to be more than just an efficient urban transportation tool to get you from A to B, but one that is said to offer some major smiles per hour along the way. Commuting on two-wheels is just plain fun, it allows for some adventure and excitement to be injected into one’s daily routine. BMW is hoping to capitalize on this by offering a user-friendly, twist-and-go scooter that lacks the intimidation-factor most conventional motorcycles possess. Making the new scooter that much more tempting is the inclusion of premium components and modern safety features such as Automatic Stability Control and high-performance front twin-disk ABS brakes.

The new C 400 X is powered by a 350cc single-cylinder engine with electronic fuel-injection that makes 34hp at 7,500rpm and 25.8ft-lbs of torque at 6,00rpm. Married to the 350cc single is an (automatic) continuously variable transmission. Wrapped around the single is a tubular steel frame dampened via a telescopic fork up front and dual-spring struts in back. Another noteworthy feature on BMW’s newest scooter is its torsionally stiff drivetrain swing arm that boasts an innovative swing arm bearing which results in minimal vibration.

Like any new BMW two-wheeler, the C 400 X sports a beautiful design and is jam-packed with all the modern bells and whistles you’d expect to find on a Bavarian machine. It has ample storage space, full LED lighting, and a full-color, multi-function 6.5” TFT display just to name a few. While scooters may not be particularly sexy*(That's debatable -JM),*by creating a well-equipped, modern, high-end offering, BMW is well equipped to attract new riders. As far as scooters go, the C 400 X is a damn fine looking machine, and the premium paint and finish – Zenith blue metallic or Alpine white – certainly does its part too.
