I used some needle nose pliers but they do make removal tools for those clamps. But 1. Theyíre expensive. 2. They were sold out at the two places I called. 3. These young kids have no idea what a C or E clamp is lol. Once I got the clamps off it was easy peasy. The spring and bolt fit like a charm into the aftermarket pegs. And they look cool. Be safe everyone!

Your bike is lookin' good!!!!!! Where's your 250 R sticker? I bought an extra set.

Your daughter's Sportster?!?! Gawd, where was she when I was 25 years old (I'm 71 now).

Bill
She's not even 20 yet and has been riding for almost 4 years. She had her motorcycle learners permit before she had a drivers license for a car.

God bless her. You must be proud!!! I had a girlfriend in the 70s and she said I taught her to ride bikes. I didn't, no one can teach someone to ride. You get on, let out the clutch and go. It's you and the Lord from then on. I'm still in touch with this lady after 42 years. She told me a story about visiting a friend and he offered her a ride on his Sportster (her starter bike was a Kaw 400 triple). She said "Sure". She hopped on and took her for a spin. God, i should have married her.

@Ram Jet She got a sister? Phone number?

Amen to @VaFish young daughter, good for her! (but hopefully someday the Ducati bug'll bite )

To topic...my day.... these 25 year old, badly neglected Ducati/Mikuni carbs on the hit list

Free flowing, uncontrolled float systems, rock hard flattened seals/orings everywhere, missing parts, pilot jets blocked solid....the works

Intend to replace every consumable, and those above and beyond traditional "carb kit" as well (fuel and vent rail seals)

Jennings....my my we are showing our age(s) today

No doubt Mikuni made a great product. But long term owner neglect is contemptible ....destructive to even the best carpotata's.

Not groundbreaking info....periodic maintenance and replacement of ALL consumables is mandatory to sustaining a long, reliable service life.

I'm in complete agreement. You should have seen the condition of these 1952 and 1960 outboard motor carbs. One, when I removed the float bowl, I thought it had to be replaced. I used a Badger abrasive airbrush to clean the bowl out. It works fine now. I think, based upon the condition of the inside of the gas tank and the float bowl on the carb they must have run Draino in this little bitch. I put about 750 BBs in the gas tank and some methel ethel keytone in the tank and shook the poop out of it. I also replaced the in-tank fuel filter with a VW tank filter.

No more!

Bill

results of my Ducati/Mikuni day...these much improved, I project will be fully functional. Have yet to "rerack" them.

Some orings were near crystallized (original?) I believe these were never fully serviced in their 25 year lifespan.

EVERY oring, seal, circuit, float system, fuel pathway.....all have been renewed/replaced/addressed. Jetting tweaks and setup per owners specific wants/needs. As old as they are, they'll now go another 25!

Somehow, I think Jennings would give a nod of approval! And @Ram Jet too?

Very nice! I have grown quite fond of Ducati and KTM over the last few years. I got my eye on an R6 though. Not too many Ducati’s in the Chicago area. However I would certainly test drive one before I made any kind of new purchase. I’m happy with my 250 so I’m in no hurry to up the CC’s. But I’m looking.

Got the oil changed today. My 250 runs like a dream at almost 18k miles but every time I change the oil thereís always that fear Iíll see something I donít want to see in the oil or in the filter. So itís always a relief to see everything looks GQ!

My rear tire tread was getting very thin so I took advantage of being off for Good Friday so I put on a new tire that I had ordered a while back.
