Little baggage carriers

What do you all have or recommend as far as small bags? I've got attachment hooks on the back deck of my Ninja, and I'm looking for a little bag of some kind. Probably something soft, and enough to carry just a few things, maybe a small grocery store stop, that kind of thing.

I've seen tank bags, and I don't think I want to go that route. The bikes' set up to anchor things on the back seat, anyway, so I'm assuming there are things designed to fit there.

I'll keep that in mind. Looking more for a tailpack than saddlebags, but those could be useful in the future. Definitely good and compact!

Over the seat?

Did you check the previous link for tail bags?

Givi top box has been the single greatest purchase I've made with my ninja and that's really saying something when you consider my list of mods.

Personally I always wanted to put a cargo net above the passenger seat, but never did, because I don't carry anything on the ninjette.

I'd like to find a bag like a tank bag that replaces the passenger seat (2012). Attach & remove using the seat lock and bracket.

Thinking about the Eclipse one. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/eclipse-luggage/

Or husband found a Kriega at RevZilla that looks like it might work.

I'm not looking to carry a ton of stuff, just my Nook, wallet, phone, and maybe a few odds and ends. A girl ends up needing things once in a while and as much as I love my riding pants, the pockets are crap.

Every time I am on a hwy on a motorcycle, I am constantly checking to see if my phone and wallet are still in my pants. I really need pants with zippers. Strangely I never have the problem in the twisties though.

Luggage solutions are very much a personal preference thing. I've done the tank bag thing, and the tail bag thing. For my uses, I've found a backpack to be the most convenient and useful.

The reason is simple: It's one less thing that you have to fiddle with on the bike. Get to the store, the office (or whatever destination) and you just hop off, lock the bike and walk away. Time to leave... hop on and go. No worries about security when you stop for lunch. Etc. etc.

For those unexpected (or even expected) trips to the store, I keep one of these in the bike's tail. Thus I always have a way to carry stuff, ready to go. I use this only for those occasional needs. Definitely not meant for everyday duty, but super-useful when the need pops up.

http://www.treklightgear.com/bindle-daypack.html

For regular use (commuting), I have a Kriega R25 backpack. I thought for a very long time about this before buying it, because Kriega gear is so expensive. I'm glad I did. It is, in a word, perfect. The chest suspension thing is no gimmick. It really does work. All-day comfortable.

Regarding saddlebags/tail bags, I've had a few variants over the years. None have really stood out. All have worked adequately. I don't think it matters a whole lot.

My most recent, which I still have, is a Bags Connection Cargobag. Good for touring. Wouldn't use it as an everyday thing.

That's cuz hwy driving is boring! Twisties are much more fun and you've got something to pay attention to.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm definitely looking for something for every-day use. I may end up with a backpack, though I'd like something smaller. Sometimes when husband and I are on his bike I'll wear one since I don't mind it nearly as much as he does. And I do have a couple that are fairly comfortable.

Actually, if I end up with my CamelBak, that can carry what I need. Not something I want every day, but on weekends that may work.

As a temporary thing, husband has lent me his tailbag, and it's definitely good to have someplace to put things. Today, it held a D-lock, its key, a little camera, my Nook, my wallet, and my phone.

I would have to have a very large phone if I wanted to do it that way! Your eyes must be better than mine. I do ok at normal distances, but close up....

My hubby had ordered a Kriega bag the 20L size, hoping it would fit his laptop, and it sort of does, but just barely. So the search continues. Next we're planning to order the 30L, as well as the 10 and 5, to see what we like. I think the mounting system will be good, and it comes on and off quickly and easily. Just a matter of the size of the bag. I like that it will cinch down flat to whatever I've put in it.

This is the tailpack I've borrowed from him for the moment:

I have a FastPack from http://www.thecycleguys.com/

Love it, might fit a laptop though.

Found one that I think I will like. Folds nice and flat, is removable but doesn't look as removable as it is, and will hold the little things I need.

Owned a tail bag before, maybe I am too stupid since I cannot tie that darn thing properly to the back seat! Wanted to get a tank bag but cancelled it off when saw how my friend's tank was scratched badly due to the magnetic part locking and scraping the paint off from the tank. The last resort and still practical is using a backpack like adouglas said for daily use. For a long journey it's a definitely no-no.

Other solution is to have a pouch bag with you. Make sure you got all your important stuff sealed in a waterproof container, put it in that bag and off you go.

The one I have now hooks to the frame, underneath the seat. Little loops come out from under the seat, and the bag hooks to the loops. It's pretty secure and I'm very happy with it. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time I have the seat off, that might help.

I hesitated to have a tank bag for the reason you noted- don't want to scratch my tank!

They got this for the solution at RevZilla. But I do not sure how effective this thing works. some of the comments left stated that "it does leave behind a sticky film when removed."

Tape- yeah, it sure could, especially if it's left on for a while. Even "removable" tape kind of ... doesn't come off.

It's a tape if you get it at a hardware store. It's a brandname-protective-tape-kit-gear if you get it from a bike store.

After decided to get another bike for touring purposes, I had to cancel it since it will be a bit pricey, new bike price + luggage. So my wife had asked me to purchase only luggage and hook it on my ninjette.

I still can recall on this post and it has been about a year now. Kerry, could you kindly give your review on the Kriega? Thought of getting one too, the Kriega tailbag US-20.

I love my Kriega! I have the 10L one, which works pretty well for holding my normal stuff: my tablet, wallet, phone, maybe a liner for my jacket, tools for when I go to work. I can even pick up a few things from the grocery store.

The Kriega bags worked well when we went to Vegas and camped in Death Valley on the way, too. Husband had his saddlebags and a tailpack, plus the tent and the sleeping pads on his bike. On mine, we had the 30L, two 10L bags (one on either side of the 30, designed to do it), and my CamelBak on top of the whole deal.

I have a US-20. I couldn't fit my 15" work laptop with extended battery comfortably in it. But otherwise no complaints.

It was a pain removing all the fairing bits to get the rear straps onto the frame. The front two straps are held by the seat.

Yeah, it's hard to find a bag that holds a laptop that isn't rather large.
