Ninja 300 dropping power at high RPM

Hey all,

Tuner has my bike and as he's doing runs, it drops 2 hp anywhere between 11K and 13K rpm. Very strange. It is sporadic, as to when it happens, 11K, 11.5K, 12K rpm, etc... But it drops the exact same every time. The A/F curve is constant, smooth and a thing of beauty.

2013 Ninja 300 Race bike. Supersport build.

Pulled the Bazazz, no change, did it with clutch switch in and out, no change, disconnected quick shifter, no change. The whole thing is very bizarre. Anybody else seen this before? Gonna change the ECU today to see if it is a signal issue, but I can't think of anything else that would cause it.

Any input would be appreciated.

Seems like it would be ignition related to me then.

Plugs, wires, coils, anything else ignition related.

That's what we thought. Plugs are relatively new (one race weekend). The coils are good and wires from harness and Bazazz are good. Cams have been degreed and timing is good. Only happens in a very small rpm range.

Can you isolate the problem to one cylinder?

It would be unusual for a plug to be bad, but it maybe worth changing plugs just to cross it off the list.

That's fair, and I will check them, but if it were a plug issue, you would expect it across the entire RPM range. It is only dropping out momentarily and only in high rpm's.

Diagnostics didn't indicate any misfiring and voltage appears to be good. Battery is at 14.7v when running (li-ion).

My best guess is that there is a connection somewhere that is losing continuity when the harmonic frequency at that RPM range causes just the right vibration. I'll get the bike tomorrow afternoon, pull all the harness connections, make sure they are clean and have solid contact. Hopefully that solves it.

Post your dyno-chart with AFR.

Is chart same with and without Bazazz in place?

When was last time valve-adjustment done?
Air filter replaced/cleaned recently?

Also verify secondary butterflies are working properly.

New filter, no secondary butterflies, no recent valve adjustment, but we don't believe it is fuel or air since A/F ratio doesn't change. Drop occurs with or without Bazazz
