Stock mixture screw settings

I need to double check if the stock settings for the idle mixture screws is really 2.5 turns out for the left and 1.75 turns for the right carburetor. Just so no one is confused to which screws I'm talk about it's these...

Each carburetor has one idle mixture screw. They are fuel adjustments, so screwing one in will make that cylinder leaner.

Exactly where you initially set them isn't critical, since it's important to do the final adjustment by warming up the engine fully and adjusting each screw for the highest idle speed. It's usually best to err on the side of a little rich.

I have found that they only can be adjusted for up to 5,000 rpms. What do you adjust for problems higher then that. I'm having big issues at 8500 rpms and everyone said adjusting those screws wouldn't do anything. The bike factory specs are set 2.5 left and 1.75 right. If they are both fuel why are they set different???

the factory idle screw settings are (primarily) based on meeting EPA specs. Higher RPM tuning involves needle height settings and main jets....depending on your specific running needs.

Uneven pilot-screw settings because bike doesn't have perfectly even firing order. Exhaust scavenging effects for each is different. Also left & right needles are different. If you've taken them out, make sure they go back in correct side. Make sure your float-levels are set correctly with final external wet-test as confirmation.
