Motorcycle Lifts

Has anyone ever used a motorcycle lift like this one from Harbor Freight:

http://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb...ck-to-top-link

Do they make maintenance easier?

That one is designed for bikes with a double-cradle frame, like Harleys.

The Ninjette doesn't have anything on the bottom... you'd be lifting the bike by its oil pan.

For sport bikes, this is the one:

http://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb...8892-8495.html

No actual experience with lifts, but I can tell you that having the bike elevated does make life easier. When track prepping my bike, I like to get it on the trailer first.

I've often wondered if the big lift would fit under my car, so I could just put one in the middle of the garage for use when needed. Probably not, though.

I love my table lift!

I've since added the grey chock the holds the front wheel better than the red plate it came with. Makes oil changes, chain maintenance, and wheel replacement super easy, plus a lot simpler to just raise it up and tinker with things.

Mine fits under my truck with chock lined up under my bumper, but I have a 4Runner with slightly larger than stock tires.

Keep an eye on sales and coupons, I *think* this can be picked up for around $200 periodically.

Any idea what the actual height is when collapsed, not counting the front wheel holder thingamagig?

I've got a Honda Fit.

Yeah, I know.... dream on....

Or... I could just put it along one side of the garage and just drive the car up onto it....

(Wife: "Andy? Why is your car tilted to one side like that?")

Well, that might be a solution. I want to see pics if you do it!

Off the top of my head, sorry no I don't know the height. But I can measure it tonight when I get home if you want.

How does the table lift help with wheel changes?

Do you have to put the bike on the centerstand on the lift? (that's one of the reasons I was looking at a lift, PO removed the centerstand from one of my bikes)

Hey Tom, you have a pregen, as you may already know the new gens do not have a stock center stand. Anyway... when changing tires and such, a set of stands make life much easier. They make a few different types but 2 should do the trick;

A front triple tree stand - they make some that go under the fork legs also (pictured)
A swingarm stand - you will need the paddle type to lift the stock swingarm on a pregen (rear spool type pictured)

Ebay and craigslist will be an asset here to find a good deal. If you want the best... buy pitbull.

To do more involved work on a bike, getting it up off the ground and at to at least waist level makes the work more enjoyable and not as hard and the legs and back.

That's what paddock stands are for. This does not replace them. You still need to get the wheels off the ground.

What a table lift does is keep you from breaking your back and tearing up your knees.

^ what they said.

Bringing the axle up to you vs getting on the flooring makes working on the bike much easier and less painful on you. I still use a pitbull on the rear to deal with the chain and rear tire. My front tire gets more creative as I don't have a front stand.

Wished that I had an actual garage that I could use at my apartment, if I did I'd invest in the 1000lb lift table... As for now I'm lucky to have a brother that's a mechanic with all the tools/toys

Lift from the tree pitbull is about as rock solid as you can get.

Used to have a lift. Big, heavy, always tripping over it. Realized I always used it "fully raised" or "fully lowered", so I sold it, built a fixed-height table, and use a ramp with it. When not in use, it's easy to lean against the wall. To each their own, I guess.

I DO have a front-stand, the type that fits into the holes on the bottom of the forks, that I don't particularly need. Anyone near Waukesha WI wants it for $20, come on by.

Or, you know, use a 2-post car lift and some 550 cord

Bought a pneumatic lift a few years ago, neighbor has the harbor freight lift and I didn't like the foot pump actuation to lift the table up.

Its an invaluable tool to have if you have the room for it.

Link to original page on YouTube.

I've even taken it to the track with me.
