Cool San Diego new rider

good morning everyone, yesterday was thanksgiving today is my day off and I plan on working on my 2004 ninja 250ex with a 2007 motor I swapped out. I guess I will tell you how I came across the bike to begin with, I had posted an add on the LetGo app and it was to get rid of an older Mazda MPV van I had sitting around the yard for some time. I get a message from an older man who is interested in the vehicle, I had let him know the transmission was slipping but was drivable, the only thing he cared about was getting out of California he just wanted to know if it ran on the freeway I told him yes as it did once you got the gears up. He then asked me if I was interested in a trade, now at this point I was very interested because the van was worth little to me, I was selling it for 300 smackaroos, anyways he told me he had a motorcycle {My ears perked up} that he won at an auction for 500 dollars and was wanting to trade Van for Bike. I was amazed, we made the deal. I looked up the bike on google and didn't really know much about the 250 ninjas, I actually to this day haven't been on the street on a bike. with that being said I have ridden Dirt Bikes, ATV, bicycles, skateboarding and used to surf. What does skateboarding and surfing have anything to do with riding right? I just say this to make My mind at ease, more comfortable with the idea of flying down the freeway outside of a car exposed. I like to think all those things have brought me balance and pre-knowledge of cornering/leaning, counter steering, trusting the machine you are on and being safe. The condition of the bike was not too good, she looked pretty but didn't run. I think at this point I have spent 1500 or more on just parts alone not to mention stupid pointless purchases that didn't work or I just changed my mind about something. I was aware of spending more then what the bike was actually worth but its the principle of starting her up damnit. don't even get me started on how much I spent on gear that I haven't got to use, I have had the bike for almost a year changing little parts here and there, new fairings, stickers haha, cleaned out a rusty tank that had been sitting for three or more years the guy had told me. Ok so I finally have put everything together and just need to install the carburetor and fill her up with oil and antifreeze and probably tune it correctly etc., which I have to do research on here shortly or ask you guys. From a dry start how much oil, antifreeze and..transmission fluid?? does it take to fill but not damage the motor?
Thank you for reading and maybe Ill see you on the streets of SD soon to make a ninja gang haha. Stay Hyper Aware and drive safe. I am excited/scared to be a new rider I have seen countless death videos to remind me to stay safe and aware. traumatizing I know, but that's how you take **** seriously. I eventually want to transition to a bigger cc bike preferably from Yamaha, I don't plan on ever selling the Ninja though, I wont get back what I put in. Go Padres!!

Greetings and Salutations Anthony !!!

These little bikes are so much fun! I started out with used race-bike to get into racing which I'd been contemplating for decades! It's so much fun, I bought another for street riding and commuting. Then I got another and another! Well, been restoring and selling them off.

Yeah, all answers to your questions can be found by searching here. Good luck & have fun!

- 2 ltrs oil, fill up to top line/mark of sight-glass with bike upright
- coolant? i think 2.5l

Welcome, The 250 is a great bike all around, cheap gas, parts, and very quick to corner. The Ninja 250 is the Miata of bikes and it will make you a superstar in the canyons. If I had the space I would buy another one.

Thank you sir, since then I have gotten the bike to run and stay on without the choke. I am figuring out a gear issue at the moment.
