RideDFW Stands with Dallas Police Department on Memorial Ride

Amid all the chaos happening in Dallas at the moment, one group of riders in the region area got together this weekend to pay tribute to the fallen police officers.

RideDFW, a club that puts on charity rides for other good causes (like autism) organized a last-minute tribute ride for the police killed by a sniper last week. No matter where you fall along political or racial lines, it is always nice to see sport bikes and cruisers, adventure bikes and vintage bikes, young and old riders, not to mention all races, all come together for a good cause.


The main group met up at Grapevine Kawasaki, and rode into Dallas proper, right by the memorial set up outside the police station. In all, nearly 200 bikes are said to have participated, all identified with a thin blue line sticker across the helmet or bike.


A group like this makes all of us who ride look better in the eyes of the world. Video and news stories of the event are already popping up on USA Today, New York Newsday, and other national outlets, not just the local Texas media.


As is appropriate for such a somber event, it began with everyone bowing their heads and saying a short prayer – for both the fallen officers and fallen fellow bikers. Then they all rode off, peacefully, to Dallas Police Department headquarters to pay their respects at the impromptu memorial there. The ride then continued on to Dallas city hall where there is a permanent police memorial. You can watch the Associated Press video here:

This ride was not a fundraising event, but in the past RideDFW has also raised money for the families of officers injured or killed in the line of duty. There no longer seems to be a web page for RideDFW, but you can show support on their Facebook page, which is where these pictures all came from.
