AFM #676

That's right mother ****ers, I got my race license. I'm an amateur, very amateur racer. My first race is tomorrow and based on the trackday today I'm confident I can at least get second place in a couple of my races. Granted there's only two people running in two of my races but still, podium finish my first time out? **** yeah

In the practice today at Buttonwillow I ran 2:26 consistently, the minimum qualifier for one of the races I'm running is 2:27 so I should be good. Pretty ****ing excited! Got a practice session for half the day tomorrow and then clubman lightweight race and 300 production race. They are scheduled at the same time so I guess I run 2 races at the same time like a boss. Then Sunday it's 250 superbike and 500 twins.

damn, you have grown fast.
just remember in the pubs say that you finished podium and don't mention how many people were in the race, not many people will ask and will just assume a full grid.

don't forget the gopro edited/raw video

Nice to hear about the license.

Remember

Racing is a little different than a amateur trackday.

and

Slow and steady wins the race and a rush of blood your a dud.

I'm totally fine with being slow and steady. If that means I come in second place then so be it :P

Well surprise surprise look who I got gridded right next to.

They added one more to our grid so we had a total of 6 racing in 300 production. One person looped their bike and then the battle for 3rd place went on between @Zombiphone and myself. She probably didn't realize it was a battle because, as you will see in the action packed footage I recorded, I was being a major vagina and only attempted a pass on the last lap. I passed Tiff and my dream of becoming a third place finisher in the AFM novice group was coming true. But like a soulless creature that steals candy from the unborn children of teenage mothers, Tiff passed me in turn 8 of the final lap. I couldn't pass her in the next two turns and as we approached the final turn of the race I closed my eyes and prayed to Rossi for a miracle.

And then....

Tiff going in to deep and killing her drive plus you great drive and the small advantage of your 300's extra power = win or whatever position you guys were battling for. Oh by the way shift shift under pressure there at the end

It cool how the extra power of the 300 kinda evens out with your extra weight over Tiff, but it seems you still have the slight advantage.

Good job

Well actually there are some 250s that I can't beat in a straight line. During the practice yesterday there were a few that I couldn't gain on at all in the straights. Pretty sure one of them was a Feel Like A Pro bike. I'm fat and on a stock 300 so compared to a modded 250 with a smaller person, I may not have a power advantage at all.

I like that though. I'm going to leave my bike as stock as possible until I start to reach its limits

Thanks, I'm gna upload the rest of the race right now. I'm running off a crappy tablet pc and an iphone hotspot so it'll be an unedited low res video (same as the posted one above)

She definitely couldn't hear me. My bike is 100% stock except for the rearsets so its super quiet.

when you're all quiet and **** it makes it harder to tell if you're passing on the inside or outside when you're in front. so tbh it's kinda an advantage. but you clearly have way more power in the straights with that 300

If you get a microtuner or power commander and nothing else, would that still be considered all stock? It is just mapped differently.

I wouldn't consider it stock.

At this point it would be a waste of money to me, a power advantage won't make me a better rider/racer. I'd rather spend that money on making sure I get to every race this year.

Also, the next thing I would be changing out is the suspension. Not sure when I'll do it though, theres a race nearly every month so it'll be difficult to come up with the extra money and stay within my budget.

Yeah I would do AFM but for that very reason I can't. It's like $500 a weekend if I don't use tires or crash. And the drive is 6 hours for 95% of the races. Where as MWGP for me is like $250 a weekend and they do Buttonwillow the most out of any orginization which is 45min. CVMA is even cheaper for the amount of racing they let you do. But its a bit more driving. I want to go there next season because they have one of the best 250 turn outs and some of the fastest riders on the WestCoast!

I hear ya, I prefer a track I can ride to in the morning. Buttonwillow is just far enough out that it makes that not possible for me.

How quick do you change out your tires? I feel like mine are still in good shape for the next round. Ive got about 2k miles on my rosso 2, thats street plus quite a few track days plus this race weekend

Once a season or twice a season. You don't need to very often with the rosso 2. I run those front and rear. I have about 5 weekends on them (trackdays/races). I'm probably still good for another 3 weekends. I don't ride my bike much on the street though. I'd just keep an eye on them. They are pretty cheap anyways at $150 a set. Racing the ninja is all about keep costs down though haha.

My bike falls out of gear a lot, or it drops back down like from 5th to 4th. Maybe I'm not shifting all the way??? Idk, I'm doing clutchless shifts and it only happens occasionally not everytime. Hmm
