Why is everyone older and richer than me here?...
...and taller and owns like, a million vehicles, and goes to track days all the time (I want to go to a track day but I don't have a bajillion dollars for a suit and the track fees) and please explain to me why EVERYONE is buddy buddy and I'm just like...bro....IT'S THE MONEY

I own a ninja because I can't afford the upkeep and gas on my 94 car that has 260,000+ miles on it. |

Meh, I don't even own a motorcycle anymore. I wish I did at times, but I had to ditch it because I just had too much on my plate.
I currently drive a Chevy Impala with 100K on it, and I have zero plans on selling it. That is ok, I didn't do any real track days either. Oh, and 6'.

I'm starting to feel a little better about things :]. Apex, I've seen you around a lot on these forums and I actually thought you were one of those track buddies I was talking about. Comforting to know I don't have to be an all out track rider to be accepted.
But, crap, you're still older and taller than me! |

Age is just a number. My wife thinks I act like I am 33 going on 12 sometimes. Especially when I hang out with my nieces. I act like a little kid and get us all in trouble.
The only racing I do anymore is running or mountain biking. Motorcycles were just too expensive to do along with my cycling. I had to make a tough decision. I still believe I made the right one.

You know, before I joined this forum I had never even thought of doing a track day(s). It just didn't interest me at all. But now you guys are all influencing me and whenever I get a surplus of money (:lol like that will ever happen), and have my bike I'm definitely looking into it!

23 years old, 5ft 6, just getting by alright living pretty frugally with splitting rent with my girlfriend. Haven't done any track days and just got my 1995 Ninja 250 back together and running alright. I had to get a different frame since had issues with the title, so everything had to be swapped over to a 2004 frame...
Don't look at life in terms of what you make. There's always someone who will be making more. There's always someone taller, who gets more girls, lives in a nicer neighborhood, etc. Relax, enjoy what you have and the freedom that most of us younger guys have. Honestly I'm content right now. I have a job, there's cold beer and food in the fridge, and the Ninja is fun to ride around and makes the trip to and from work more tolerable.

Get together with other people and set up a track somewhere? There's a big building where they have concerts and hockey games and all kinds of stuff, and they have a good sized parking lot. They have SCCA auto racing once in a while. They just set up a whole ton of cones. Just find a willing business with a big parking lot and do the same.

I did use a new neighborhood as my track for a while. They were laying some new construction, and as always, the roads come first. They also normally build towards the entrance first, then branch out. So there were tons of free streets. I simply used that as my track. No timing or anything, but got out and rode. I could have put my knee down several times if I had leathers. Turning sharp enough in a cul-de-sac to drag a knee is not small feat. Most people would be afraid to turn so tight at such low speeds. To me it was a blast.

Ahhh, ya I remember the "glory dayz" you all are living in now. I used to live in an underground apartment for $50 a month and delivered pizza at $2.50/hr. while I was in college. Fun times.

At least in the past, there was hope for the future. If you got an education or got on somewhere decent, you had a shot of making a decent living. We're seriously thinking about just selling everything and moving from the US over to Ireland or just somewhere in Europe that actually has a job market.

The job market pretty much stinks everywhere. I don't think Europe is much better off than we are.

Ride the bike. You could easily befriend someone else who is going out there with a truck or trailer, and they can carry your stuff (like gas can, stands, etc).
However, on a 250, if there is a gas station near by, you should be able to fill up, do your track day, and hit the gas station again without going bingo.

Well the track is about 290 miles away from home. And I'd be worried about crashing the bike and not being able to ride it home. Hopefully that doesn't happen but you never know. |

ballin, also... but really though, what does it matter.
personal wealth is most accumulated by time and good management. live your life responsibly and you will have plenty of money. dont be jealous of others, work hard and make a plan to put yourself where ever you want to be.

Well, I doubt you will need to worry about that. Typically they separate the groups by experience levels. So, you would be the slowest/newest riding group. That would help you keep your speeds down. Plus they talk about the track before hand (typically), about braking points, etc. You have a few warm up laps, then you start working on small things. So the first time out there, you just work on getting to know the track. You aren't out there to break records with your lap times, you simply want to really get to know the track. I mean that at the end of the day, you can close your eyes and see every turn and know what gears you are in around the track. You most likely won't crash the first few times you are out there. It is once you try to brake deeper in a turn, or concentrate on getting faster lap times...that is when your normally wipe out there. Plus at your level, there is a no passing rule if I remember correctly. Well, in the turns or leading to the turns. Around here you can only pass on the straights in the newbie level.

Trailer would be an investment. Plus the lightest u-haul weighs too much for my 1.5 liter car. Haha. I'd be pushing it with the HF trailer and my bike on it. I'll see though. I am just in the planning stages. I got some time yet to make a real decision. |

You should have just posted this: I am going to start to work on my wife for a little scooter. Nothing fancy. Just to putt around on running small errands. However, I very much prefer my bicycles over driving anything, but sometimes you just have to be somewhere in a lower amount of time, so a moped would be pretty cool to have (plus super cheap to own).
