Love this, because so often the term "maintenance throttle" is used when it should be called "rolling on". Riders have a false understanding of what they should be doing in a corner to stabilize the bike and hold the throttle steady or use maintenance throttle instead of a slight roll on.

So what kinds of corners or situations warrant maintenance throttle instead of a smooth roll on?

There's one other possible cause of the OP's wandering rear end: your suspension. Have you set the sag and do you have the apropriate spring(s)? If you have set too much preload on the rear spring and you transfer all the weight to your front tire because of hard braking; your back tire may not be able to extend into any surface irregularities because the suspension is fully extended and so it will "hunt" side to side.
