Dash Dead (Intermittent), Front Lamps on, Wont Start
Newbie here, and new Ninja 300 SE ABS, well 2013 model, but new for us as Learners working on getting our licence here in Sydney, Australia. Had a bit of a wobble last weekend when practising for the test, tight u-turn manoeuvre and the bike and i fell over with little movement, all good but since then and its happened 3 times now your turn the ignition and none of the dash lights up, BUT the lights come on! Today I checked all the fuses and put them back, all seemed fine but still did not light up. It was only when I moved the handlebar from left to right and pressed the handbrake that it came to life. Twice today that has been the solution to getting it to come back to life. Anyone any advice on what to start looking at next? Really appreciate it and a case of beer via PayPal for your fixing solution ;-) Video here - https://i.imgur.com/4Q4V2SV.mp4

I would say to start by looking for a broken wire or bad connector if you can get it to work by moving the bars side-to-side.
What happens when you hit the starter button? Have you done anything to the ignition switch? Cycle is in neutral, correct? Have you checked the battery voltage and terminals to make sure they are tight? Also posted at kawasaki ninja .com Last futzed with by jkv45; June 27th, 2020 at 04:25 PM. |

Hi Anthony and welcome to Ninjette!
Seems your tipovers may have loosened or broken something. My personal philosophy is that things are in one of two states: working and non-working. Typically what causes things to flip states from working to non-working is some sort of impact or smack. So to reverse states, you smack it again!!! With key ON, gently grab wiring harness coming out of each handlebar control and gently wiggle it. Does dash turn on? Move aobut 10cm down harness and wiggle again. Then move and wiggle again. Repeat for other handlebar control. Also inspect harness connectors and disconnect and reconnect to ensure each one has good fit. Something probably got knocked loose with no permanent damage. Just a matter of finding what that piece is by wiggling. Key to troubleshooting is scientific methodical testing with gathering lots of data (ideally quantifiable), and ruthless usage of boolean logic. |

If you don't find anything obvious, we'll have to break out multimeter and measure voltages at various points and entre into spreadsheet table with multiple columns. One for each state of key. Another column for state of start button. In programming, this is called a "finite state machine" with anticipating all possible combinations.
Let's hope you find loose connector beforehand.... |
