Onboard playing with the big bikes in Intermediate

I was at MSR Cresson this weekend, mostly practicing on my literbike in the Advanced group, but I took my 250 out for a few laps in the Intermediate group as well. It was really relaxing to get on the 250 after fighting the big bike, I think mostly because there's only two braking zones for the 250 compared to six on the RSV4.

I annotated the passes with some explanation for those that might be newer to the sport and wondering how to go big bike hunting on a 250.

No kidding! The bike lost its oil filter (so I heard) and dumped that oil all along the little straight there. He ended up going down in that right hander, and then three more bikes went down as well before they could get a red flag up. I was maybe the 10th rider to come up on it and by that time one of the instructors had pulled off to the side and was pointing at the track and waving his arms too. Everyone was ok, and at least one of the bikes that got taken out was still rideable. Just one of those track day risks, I guess.

Yeah? It's only 1.7 miles. There is a separate 1.3mi track at the same facility, and they can join them to make a 3.1mi loop. Now that is a big track...

Aww man, you mean I don't get a trophy for that??

Yeah, I know they weren't going fast. I do race the 250s, so I expect to be a lot more aggressive than most of the Intermediate riders. I only explained those passes because I felt like they were kind of "textbook", and because I've seen other 250 riders get hung up behind big bikes being ridden like that.

Here now young man.... Those riders are semi typical I group riders at alot of track days. They will be fast riders soon enough as long as they keep workin' it.

Chasing down a faster rider on a 250 just gives them incentive....

I would love to see more videos like that. I am new to the track this season, so your captions really helped me figure out what I have been reading in books and online. I bought a 250r to make myself become a better rider, so a video like this is gold! Thanks and keep it coming

Great video. thanks for posting. a guy at work was looking over my shoulder and remarked that there was nothing exciting about it. i said well considering this guy has around 80-100 hp less than the people he is passing it is pretty exciting. he still didn't get it. oh well

Glad you liked it. Here's some more from the 250 vs. big bikes category. These aren't annotated, but ask away if you have questions.

Harris Hill Road, a local small track:

Texas World Speedway (good examples of chasing down big bikes):

Good clip of chasing down a guy at MSRH that took a couple laps:

Short clip at MSRH with a ton of passes:
