Headlight bulb replace

Did this a few years ago but only remember it was difficult due to tight spaces.
If my memory serves there is a rubber cover that needs to be pealed off. Then there is a spring clip that will release the bulb. Can't remember how to do that. Would appreciate a link or advice.
Thanks, Bill

You didn't mention your year model. Anyway, I'd post the same video most people post except the guy forgets to mention the adapter on the bulb and folliwing his instructions would have you throw it away and be unable to install the replacements!

Link to original page on YouTube.

There's an edit at the beginning mentioning the black base, keep it! you'll need it.

No edit here. Must be an annotation and you can't see annotations on tablets and mobile devices.

People will try to reference a video like this outside by the bike, possibly in the auto parts store parking lot after they frustratedly attempt to do it blindly. They will do so on their mobile devices and they could easily make this mistake. The guy REALLY needs to make it private and upload an updated video, even if it's the same exact video but with a title card added.

Its apparent the guy won't do that.

The simpler solution would be for one of us, who know the video is wrong, to make a new one and clearly show the steps while clearly stating what is needed to be done.

If you want to wait until I get back, I'll gladly make one and we can all link to it vs this one.

However, most threads in this topic tend to be ones with a bit of urgency, I link to what's available and comment about the base.

Not sure what mistake the video makes. Something about an adpter he doesn't address. Could someone clarify?
Thanks, Bill

The bike's wiring does not plug directly onto the bulb as it appears. When you unplug and remove "the bulb" you are actually removing two things: the bulb and an adapter that also serves as a base/spacer. You can simply pull it off and put it on the new bulb, but people have thrown them away accidentally and complained that their new bulbs were loose/didn't fit.

Thank you. That is very clear. Not sure why other responders didn't clarify that. Otherwise the video is very helpful. Bill

Cool

Great video. I followed his advice and replaced my headlight bulb in about 4 or 5 minutes without much hassle. I didn't need a special annotation about the base adapter - I thought it was blatantly obvious just from comparing the stock bulb with the replacement.....

I started this thread and appriciate the advice. The video is well done and I'm sure it helped lots of folks. Just pulled my bulb and it was obvious that it sits in a plastic plug. Why anyone would throw that away is beyond me. So here's my mod to the video for anyone that watches it:

Friends this is a good video for the bulb replacement. However when you remove the bulb you will see it's mounted into a plastic adapter. Separate the two, and use the adapter for your replacement bulb. Truely a few minute job. Bill

FWIW, it's in the description of the video.

Please remember the black base of the bulb as it won't fit properly without it!!!

Right. He only put that there because I asked him to.

It's hard to compare if you threw it away.
