I finally pushed the big red button!

So I was on the highway yesterday doing about 80mph, keeping up with a friend in his Jetta. Took my hand off the handlebars for a second and turned around, when i went to reach back for the bars, my right thumb hit the engine kill switch!!!

Tires didn't lock up, i kept rolling, and flipped the switch and she came back to life. Later that night...she wouldn't start in 1st gear unless i gave her a good wiggle or started in neutral. I let her cool down for some hours and tried again, now she starts back up in 1st gear

This ever happen to anyone?

Weird story but: The only time that happened to me it also resulted in my only spill to date was when we got a rather large hail storm passing through a few years ago. A piece of hail actually hit the kill switch when I was going about 30mph around a corner (the switch was located right on top, rather than front of the handlebar). To add injury to insult after I lowsided, the storm decided to pick up more and I was pelted with large hail the whole time I was getting my bike off the road. lol.

has happened to me, but i didn't notice any side effects... i've also bump started her twice down hill when i first got her after forgetting to turn the damn lights off while sitting next to it.

I've hit the kill switch many times, however; it's usually on someone else's bike, as I go by.

Kind of a similar thing happened to the not long ago.
I was in the car park so I was doing a rolling speed and as I found a free car park bay I went to turn and my right thumb accidently hit the kill switch and the bike stop as I was turning. Luckly I managed to hold on to the bike without droping it.
Ever since then I make sure my thumb stay as far away from the kill switch a possible.

Pushing the kickstand down at a red light is even more fun. Especially if they don't see it. They just keep hitting the starter, flipping the kill switch on and off, and turning the key until they get frustrated and try to get off the bike... then they notice...

I hold the kill switch when im coasting downhill. It builds up gas fumes in the exhaust, let it go and BOOM! goes the dynamite.

I'm not sure about that. I guess I'm just as confused as you on that one. If engine stalls lock the tires on motor vehicles..... we would have tons more crashes.

I would assume those folks were mid turn. Cutting power completely while leaned over pretty far would upset the bike I would think, and the rider too if unexpected.

In my case I was mid turn holding a lean at 30-35mph. I always take this road because of this turn, it's ridiculously fun because you hold a lean for 100+ yards (circles around to connect to another road). The road starts out going downhill then goes slightly uphill. As I was rounding the second half my kill switch was struck by hail (didn't even know it happened, hail started dropping suddenly and it happened FAST), my reaction was delayed because of the situation but I tried to straighten the bike when I felt the engine die so I could stop. But all 600+ lbs of my V-Star Custom became very apparent with no power, and gravity took over.

I've had power cut off before in a straight line, your bike just gets really heavy feeling and slows rather quickly. It's kind of the equivalent of being pushed and trying to control it with momentum only.

Depends on the bike. Think of it like bump starting. You could bump start an inline 4 600 easier than a 500 single.
