Best Pet Insurance??

Weird question, but I want to get health insurance for my dog.. yes... Was wondering if anyone here has had experience with any of the major pet insurance companies. My good friend just spent $11,000 on her 14-year-old husky for cancer surgery and I never want to have to make a gofundme page for unforeseen vet bills. My dog is 3 yrs German shepherd with no history of health issues so hopefully he would be easy to sign up. Just want it for major accidents/injuries/illness not regular stuff or minor things. I would appreciate your input!

No advice or experience but I hope you find one that works for you. Pets can get expensive.

Having someone that unconditionally loves you is well worth it. Any person can wrong you. Humans are weird. It sucks, but it's a real possibility. Dogs love you no matter what. Even some cats do. It's really nice.

It's probably cheap if your Shepard doesn't drink, smoke, or ride a motorcycle. Pet Smart has a yearly plan (with Banfield Vet.) I've used it for a few years but I'm not sure what it covers in major operations. I only use them for regular visits and it pays for the visits.

No kidding. We're on our fourth basset hound and our second cat and I always had pets as a kid.

Self insure,

I looked into some of the insurance plans and I think you are better off just putting the $75 per month they want into a savings account or mutual fund.

This coming from a guy who just spent $3,300 on his two dogs after they ate sugar free gum.

Sugar-free gum- yeah, that's bad for dogs. Good thing you were there to get them taken care of.

I thought we were going to lose one of them.

I came home and found her in the kitchen, she couldn't stand on the pergo flooring. Then she started to have seizures. While I was dealing with her the other dog went upstairs to the jar of gum and finished it off. Got him to the vet quick enough that inducing vomiting worked.

From what I've read about Xylitol (the artificial sweetener in the gum) since then about 75% of the dogs that get to the point of seizures have to be put down due to liver failure. So far her liver enzymes have been normal and it's been over a month.

Glad to hear that. I've heard that xylitol is in peanut butter sometimes, too. So be careful.

Xylitol's invading a lot of things lately. I'm not a fan, over and above the bad things it does to dogs.

I'm glad your dogs are doing well.
