thoughts on spiked bar ends?
So I know this is a sports bike, but I REALLY love spikes (to a point). I have these spike spools (in black) on the way here right now (they should arrive tomorrow).
https://shop.eyecandycycledesigns.co...ct_detail&p=94 and I REALLY want these spiked bar ends http://www.buynowroaringtoyz.com/Arr.../rtk703rtb.htm However part of me is a bit scared about when (not if) I go down these becoming a weapon I need to be worried about. Thoughts? |

I think they are neat looking.....right up until that spike goes through your ankle in a lowside and drags you by your tendons right over the cliff with the bike.
Ill leave em to the 'busa boys in the ATL that just ride straight lines. |

My opinion, as someone who has been down, is that your opinion of spikes on bikes that are ridden might change if you've been tossed and 400lbs of bouncing metal & running mechanism is headed right at you.
Spikes like those might mean the difference between multiple broken ribs + punctured lung + large blood loss + really bad day vs. a fractured bone + big bruises + wind knocked out of you. |

Your call. My bar ends are nice and rounded. I may even consider greasing them.

I'm in agreement with everyone else that thinks that they're more dangerous than they are worth. In crashes, your chances of getting impaled or ripped open by these barends are incredibly high. Spikes are for the "Parking Space Warrior" who do more cleaning and talking than actual riding.

They look good on a bike in showroom, but that' s where I would leave them in my opinion. Get yourself a decent pair that will protect the bike in a crash.
Jay Keep the shiny side up!
