What Browser do You Use and Why?

It's been about a year since we discussed, and there was no poll in the previous thread, so I'm starting a new one.

What browser do you use and why?

I use Chrome, because I find it faster, and because I get glitches with Explorer 9 that frustrate me. Though I find Chrome a bit harder to use - interface too pared down for my liking. What are your thoughts?

IE9. I was using Firefox back before it was Firefox, Phoenix back then. Right around the time FF4 came out, my computer died. When I got my new system up and running, I thought I'd give IE9 a series try. And I've been happy enough with it I just haven't bothered trying out FF4.

Chrome or Firefox depending on what I'm doing.
I'm a web developer by trade so I tend to use each every now and then, but for IE which I can't stand.

Cheers !

Switched it to a multi-select poll; I think many folks use more than one at a time. I spend the most time with Chrome and IE9, but I occasionally use the other two majors as well.

Been using Firefox for the past couple o' years. FF4 has been pretty good, enjoying the less-is-more layout. Really dig the available extensions out there; currently have the following ones installed: AdBlock, Linkification, IE Tab Plus, Tile Tabs, Tab Scope, Undo Closed Tabs, AddThis, Dictionary Tooltip, TinEye Reverse Search, and ForecastFox, and Amazon Wish List.

Google Chrome 13 beta. Used Firefox a few years ago, and my parents are using it on their comp, but I find Chrome alot better. Opera is also a nice browser. I absolutely hate IE.

I've been using firefox for a long time now. I'm still in 3.6 since one of my favorite add-ons, Multirow toolbar, isn't available on 4. I've been considering switching to Chrome since firefox is such a resource hog.

Chrome.

Why? Because it's super fast.

It's super fast because of the security holes. Who needs security when you're running on a Linux-based machine! ;-) [sarcasm as heck]

Chrome. Faster, cleaner, happier. In the rare it lacks support for a website then I'll go with Fire Fox which is also a great browser.

The conventional wisdom as listed above has become a bit out of of date. Some of the largest security holes have been displayed in Firefox over the past year or two, and many of them remain unpatched. Here's where Mozilla lists the known ones by version:

http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/

There are more out there. IE was a steaming pile through IE6, was less steaming in IE7, but by IE8 and now 9, the security is there, the speed is there, and it even does reasonably well with web standards.

Chrome is always going to have the mistrust of those who are uncomfortable with google, but from a pure security perspective it started from the most secure code base, and security updates and patches are released more quickly than for any of the other 3 major browsers.

FF due to firebug. I used to develope web sites for celebs. So far, there is nothing greater than FF + Firebug for web development.

The poll isn't matching the visitors here as a whole, for what it's worth. The following chart is from the past 30 days here at ninjette.org. It is tracking visits, not page views, so one user coming and viewing 20 pages only counts once for a browser hit.

I use Firefox. I tried Chrome a while back, and I didn't find it to be all that fast compared to Firefox for my simple browsing. I can't stand IE, though IE9 isn't too bad, and it is what I use for those rare sites that don't work with Firefox.

I may give Chrome another go and see if I like it better. I may dabble with IE9 some more as well. I actually like Firefox 4 less than the latest version of 3 I had, and it seems slower as well.

For the most part, I'll use them all depending on different situations:

Chrome: all around fav browser. Built in Google account syncing is primary reason next to speed, reliability, and design.

Firefox: when some websites don't work correctly with Chrome. Ex Comcast bill pay doesn't work with Chrome.. go figure.

IE: Usually only when I'm testing websites I've built or the extremely rare case that something doesn't work on ff/chrome

Opera: Troubleshooting problems at IU.

Safari: avoid at all cost, only use when I need it to get Chrome/FF on people's Mac at work.

lol @ people not admitting to Explorer. Somehow it is uncool. I still use it at times (and just had to check to see if I was in Chrome ), but do run into more problems with forced restart, compatibility, delays with it. But I think the real reason people won't own up to using it: even if it is pretty good, it comes standard, and that is what grandma uses.

Firefox here, no IE(not using Windows anyways )

Firefox has just "worked" for me for years, add-ons are nice, my computer is fast enough that there's no noticeable difference between Firefox and Chrome.

For the people that like Firefox and Chrome there is an add-on called ietab. I use it in chrome for Microsoft sites like out update server and sharepoint stuff that do not format properly in chrome or firefox. If a site has issues then I can just click the little ie button in my browser and it runs an ie environment in chrome. Only works on a windows pc though.

I'm a web professional so I run the latest version of FF, Chrome and IE in order to check compatibility. For my own browsing I stick to FireFox. I previously used Chrome for my personal browsing, but I began to feel like I was giving Google way too much of a monopoly over my online experience so I switched back to FireFox.

i love chrome for one reason; multiple processes. one tab can crash or lock and usually it doesn't effect the other tabs. also it's pretty good at restoring everything if it does crash. i do web development now so i use all 3 and have fancy debugging hooks injected but for personal browsing i use only chrome and my android browser.
edit: before chrome came out i was a dedicated FF fanboy

I used IE 6 quite a lot for testing purposes at my first job. On my own computer I used FF from the start, though.

Way back when in the browser wars this was the test to beat.

http://www.webkit.org/ <-- Webkit [Webkit engine]

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/ <-- Aurora [Gecko engine]

http://tools.google.com/dlpage/chromesxs <-- Google Chrome Canary [Webkit engine]

I used Firefox way back when I wasn't an internet expert... I migrated towards Safari around version 2, used Webkit extensivley for about a year, and now I am back on Safari. I have used hundreds of web browsers and actually used to collect them. Here is a very good list of Macintosh web browsers that are still available on the web. http://www.knutson.de/mac/www/browsers.html

I use all of them for development testing at work since we support all major browsers. Personally I use Chrome. It's by far the fastest, has minimal UI, and easy searching. Browsers with addons that flash, scroll, auto install, have tons of buttons, take up lots of space...etc annoy me to no end.
