Thumbs up Scotts 250R Tire Hugger!

Woot, Scotts rear tire hugger came in the mail today!

Shipping was FAST! He shipped it Tues, got it Today Thurs!!!

Raining, so not gonna put it on the bike today, but tomorrow I will!

overall quality is pretty good!

Its not Perfect QS9000 quality, but if Scotts huggers were made from a Big million dollar company they would be!

For the Money, $109.95 + S & H.
(Kawi color, with Clear coat finish, matte black painted overlaps)

I like it, heres PICs of mine 2009 Sunbeam Red outta the box, etc!

Ill post PICs of it ON my bike tomorrow!!!

Yea, so far in my bedroom and OUTSIDE (with damn cloudy overcast today), the Colorrite paint looks like a very great Match to my OEM 2009 sunbeam red solo seat cowl!

Thou, sunbeam red in Sunlight outside, has a slight orange, General Lee like, too it!

So tomorrow in the direct sun light, well see if it matches near/perfect!

I would like to know more about that hugger. Is there a web page with some photos?
I have a red 2008 and I wonder how good the color match is.

+1 for photos and perhaps a link to secure one for myself.

Would like to see the color match on a Plasma Blue, as that's a pain to match (my factory-new replacement fairing is a few shades off). There's probably another thread around here with one, just gotta look for it, which I will.

Been considering a hugger, but not a fan of the ones that "beef up" the swingarm & Scotts is sounding more & more like a great buy.

You'll get more search results for "eBay hugger."

here's some pics of mine...

http://picasaweb.google.com/kkim993/CDIAndHugger#

http://picasaweb.google.com/kkim993/Cosmetics#

I enjoyed dealing with Scott... very laid back, polite and delivered as he said he would. Be advised this is a part time job/hobby for him, so he builds these as you order them. If you're not in a rush and willing to wait until he has the time to complete your order, the final product, price and design was well worth it for me.

He had 2 designs when I ordered mine... the old design which was a plain curved hugger and the newer design which is a bit more pointy. I have the newer design in CF. Be sure you specify which it is you want.

Scotts email when I dealt with him... don't know if it still works... swings5@comcast.net

Not yet. He is almost done developing one for the 150 tire. Scott sell two styles of the hugger, Classic style & New style, both similar. I'll post some photos of mines.

Dave,

where did you get your info? I'm running a 150/60 bt016 rear tire and the hugger clears. The chain guard, however, touches the chain with the hugger mounted over it, so I elected to run w/o the chain guard for now. However, it would take just a minimal amount of dremel work to notch the chain guard for it to clear the chain with the hugger installed.

in that regard, I guess you could say the hugger won't work with a 150 tire.

Pretty good quality on these? They look great and I am really digging the carbon fiber finish. The only catch is that I have a 150 rear tire and I am not 100% convinced that it would function well. kkim, have you had any problems besides having to knotch the chain guard?

no other problems that I can see or have found. keep in mind I have a 150/60 bt 016 tire, so I can only vouch for that specific 150 aspect/size tire.

Scott has already gotten back to me (excellent customer service thus far) and answered all of my questions and then some. I think I will be waiting for his larger version that should be coming out sometime soon.

That is one nice looking hugger though and I will try to be patient but it might be difficult.

kkim's rear tire is a 150/60 while mine is a 150/70. I believe mine is slightly higher in profile and therefore may not fit in this hugger. I decided not to take any chances, so I'll be patient and wait for the bigger hugger that should accomodate my larger tire.

Hope this helps.

UPDATED w/PICs

UPDATE w/ PICs!!!

My Rear Tire is Stock 130.

Ill tell you that the colorrite paint IS a Perfect Match!

My eyes well tell you so, I looked at the hugger next to/laying on parts of the bike and in the sunlight, there ISNT no difference!

I didnt need to take off the left passenger peg, like some ppl tell you too!

Fittment was good, the chain guard overlap is alil off, and the front chainguard Bolt has to be screwed in alot. The chainguard overlap adds thickness to that area and theres like a 1/16" of an Inch gap between the 2. Like in the one PIC below.

Overall I like it, I think for $110.00 +S&H, it was a good deal!

Other huggers are too Bulky and Pricey, IMO!

I used the double sided tape and Fiber washer (front bolt)- Scott mails with the Hugger. I do have some Strong Velcro 4" x 2" stripes i bought from Lowes for $3.00, but Ill put that on once (if) that tape wears off!

I got the Scott's new design in black matte last year. Its nice and compact and easy to mount. However the only 1 downside is that I have gone thru 3double sided tape changes to keep it down on the right mounting side. Dirt and debrie gets under the area when it flush mounts the plastic to the metal of the bike.... then it just gives way over time. It sort of lasts 3 months if I'm lucky then I have to replace it all over again.

i have Scott hugger for two years and no problem here..You need besure to use the 3M double sided tape & clean up the area real well with alcohol and such to take all the oil/dirt out before applying the tape.

eh... no offence but this hugger looks like it looks like it belongs on a Schwinn. then again i was never a fan of huggers, but i think the other 2 floating around this board look better with integrated swing arm covers. they also have straight lines that match the flow of the bike, rather than curves like this one, and they're beefier looking. i dont mean to offend anyone, it's just one mans opinion. each to his own. Scorpion, thanks for the pictures. I get to see how badass the bike looks without anything there at all. i think thats the best look i've seen, no one has showed this before. is there a real danger to riding around like this without a hugger or chainguard? are my pants going to get caught up in the chain?

I didn't want to say anything, but the only uglier hugger is the SkidMarx one! I hate it. It doesn't match the styling at all and it draws more attention to the wimpy-looking swingarm. BNut, if you like that kind of thing, by all means: Go ahead.

Sorry for the delay, I just saw your post. I asked via email about it and he replied stating one for the 150 tire is under development (no ETA) to being complete. Here is Scott's direct email swings5@comcast.net

I have attached the pic of the CLASSIC style and NEW style hugger. Also pics of the CF NEW style on my moto. Pure CF, no fiberglass. Very nice quality and finish.

they don't offer performance but do offer a benefit, they keep the shock and undertail area clean which in my opinion is worth it, a clean shock works better.

they don't offer performance but do offer a benefit, they keep the shock and undertail area clean which in my opinion is worth it, a clean shock works better.
True!

My hugger has cut the dirtyness by at Least 50% of the rear shock.swingarm and all under there! IMO scott needs to make the huggers fender just like 2-4" longer, to Really make a huge improvement in keeping the dirt 90-100% OFF the rear shock area!

I did a test, set my bike up on rear stand, hugger fully on. then with bike in N" i spinned the rear tire by hand at different speeds, with with a muddy/dirty/wet back tire... to see firsthand the dirt flinging off!

*Note: Slow speeds cause MORE mud/dirt to fling just at the right speed/angle to go OVER the hugger and dirty up the rear shock. Faster speeds (like if you city/higway 50-70MPH) causes that rooster tail and your seat cowl/ GF's back of jacket , gets lots of mud flinged up!

2-4" longer (closer the tip of fender is to the center of the rear wheel axle = better stopage) I cleaned the rear of the bike up, then got the tire muddy again and then cut a peice of cardboard and taped it into place to extend the fender.... and 2-4" (i used 3" i think) stopped ALOT more mud/dirt than how the stock scott hugger does!

off top of my head, scott charges like $100.00 for unfinished CF hugger, or $125.00 painted gloss black in CF.
