Chain Lube!?
Does anyone know if the Repsol chain wax is even worth using because thats what i use and now i have to buy a new set of sprockets and a new chain. Yes i could have lubed it more but it seemed to dry up fast within a few days of applying to the chain. i even warmed the chain up first before lubing. Does anyone recommend any better lubes?

/end thread I get good results with Chain Wax, but folks swear by that Dupont Teflon lube.

~500 miles is a good rule of thumb. Though if you ride in rain, it makes sense to speed up that interval.

I'm also interested in how many miles you went between lubing, plus the total miles on the chain. Might be some good data on how well the repsol chain lube works.

I've had the OE chain on since i bought it brand new. and i just recently hit 12,000 miles on the bike. i've kept up with maintaining the chain with adjusting the chain slack when it should be adjusted. I've been lubing it every week or so which would probably be about every 3 or 400 miles i think. now that i think about it it could be from bad allignment not too long ago after getting the valve adjustment done at a shop i noticed that the nut that locks the adjustment nut in was completely missing from the left side of the swingarm

Did you replace the nut? If not your problem is more than a little lube and the mechanic could just probably know what he is talking about contrary to popular beliefs. Pics would help in determining chain and sprocket damage.

If it ever looks dry, it's time to lube it. If it ever looks dry and rusty, it's time to clean the crap out of it, lube it, and hope that it's still recoverable.

I think I changed mine before 15K. I may not have been excellent at my chain maintenance, but I was definitely good. 15K is a shame, but it could be worse. I replaced mine when I started to see evidence of rust powder, and all of a sudden had to tighten my chain very frequently. I think I missed a lube or two in the winter, and I don't have a car, so I was always riding in the rain.
