3 hours if you know what you're doing and are putting the same model engine back in.
And that includes an hour nap in between!

Use the original upper head to frame mount off the 250, put the 250 carbs on and jet appropriately, 250 flywheel and side cover and you're ready to go. You will also need a 300 exhaust/head pipe as the 250 stuff doesn't clear the oil filter.
I had an extra 250 race "roller" laying around and a friend asked if he could race it. I told him to bring me an engine and it was all his. He showed up with a 300 engine and 40 minutes later it was in and running. Not a big job.

Thanks Bruce. If I ever trash my 250 engine that gives me more choices to get my bike on the road again.

Is the speed difference between 250 and 300 even worth the hassle though? For 50 extra cc

Everyone crashes. Some get too scared to get back on, while others can't wait to ride again.

The 250 engine that came out of it, jetted and an exhaust made almost 29hp the 300 jetted, no air box and an exhaust made 40.6hp. So I would say yes. And really if your swapping out an engine it's really no hassle to throw in a 300. The junkyard 300 engine with 800 miles on it cost $600.
