GA group ride, drag strip night!

So the 21st or 28th I was planning to take both my wife and I Ninjas to Atlanta drag strip for a “test and tune night”. She claims that her Leo Vince exhaust makes a notable difference with power. Long story short, to settle this argument once in for all, I am running both bikes to see if hers can pull a faster time. Anyways, wanted to get GA group riders to come out and run their Ninja as well. Its $20 to race $10 to watch, good learning experience on how to slip the clutch when launching, good way to see real world results with modification you may have made VS stock. Anyways, be good fun to see a bunch of 250s racing down the strip! So if you’re interested, which date would work better September 21st or 28th? 28th will probably allow for more runs since no event is going on the next day (29th). I know on the 22nd they are holding the NOPI nationals. Lets get this going, find out who is the local king of the strip on their Ninja 250

I'm in on this, bringing Neil with his 2012 650 too. 650s give me a 3.5 second jump and I'll race you. Good lucky catching me!

ps Anyone know which nitrous kit to use on a 250?

@DeviantTurtle : Is the info below correct for the Sept 21 or Sept 28 drag race nights?

The following are requirements for street legal motorcycles:
1. Drivers MUST have a full face helmet meeting the SNELL 2005 rating.
2. Driver must have leather jacket.
3. Driver must have leather pants if 120mph or faster.
4. Driver must wear full finger leather gloves.
5. Driver must have leather high top shoes or boots.
6. Motorcycle must have a chain guard.
7. Motorcycle must have working taillight.
8. Nitrous oxide is allowed, if securely mounted-DOT regulated.
9. Slicks are allowed.
10. No three-or four-wheelers of any kind.
11. If you run quicker than 9.99 seconds you must have an NHRA license.

Link; http://www.atlantadragway.com/apcm/t...0106&zoneid=35

However, I race there at least 10 times a year for the past 15 years and have never been told I could not run because I did not have on leather! Really just ankles, legs, hands/fingers covered.

@DeviantTurtle - is the $20 per person or per vehicle...say if we bring two bikes...is it $20 per bike or just per person riding?

Cool - Ill trailer both my Ninja and BuSa then maybe after 5 or so runs on the little baby Ninja I will grow some balls and run the BuSa

I am gonna try my BEST for the 28th but I may be moving around that weekend so I am not 100% sure. I will know better as the time gets closer.

Time to go buy some gear...

What you had on are last ride is enough to race the Ninja....You will need leather to run the Busa though

...thus I am off to buy leathers!! I wanted some anyway to go to Track Days so its all good. Id rather be "safer then sorrier" when it comes to trying to go as fast as possible as quick as possible but trust me, I am not planning to run that BuSa at balls out speed. Just as quick as I am comfortable as I feel on it. I aint as crazy as I may seem or sound.

So I am PUMPED about getting out there and doing this and even though I just want to go make one run at a time and see what my first run time/speed is compared to the ones when I feel more comfortable I was wondering how fast (or should I say slow) Id be going down a 1/4 mile never having done such a thing so I went on Wikipedia and found these figures in order to give me a good idea of theoretical capabilities of the bike. (super long run on sentence huh?)

PREGEN = 1/4 mile 14.59 s @ 87.82 mph
2008+ = 1/4 mile 15.58 s @ 81.98 mph

BUSA = 1/4 mile 10.27 s @ 137.9 mph
(this is the slowest tested figure I could find)

...what time and speeds do you run your 650 at DeviantTurtle?

I run a consistant 12.5, (not bad for being 200lbs) on par with most magz. Wiki claims 12.03 for the 650r! I know i can hit 0-60 on the speedo at 3.5secs...timed this using my camera, but who knows how off the speedo really is. It will be interesting to see how my bike does, Just hit 32,000 miles, so if it still runs 12.5s i will be very impressed. If it does not and Meems bike runs faster, guess it will be time for a valve adjustment and tune up

I think those will be fine. I looked on them and the quality looked good to me. Their Sedici stuff is pretty good but I would stay away from the Bilt stuff except the boots seem okay. I wanted white/black but they were out. They did red, blue and some black though. The suit I had on for our ride was a Sedici one and it's done pretty good for me.

@vman1313 - Yeah I hear you, the gear is expensive but anything to stay out of the hospital. Another good option on a budget is the Speed and Strength or Cortech stuff

DT,

From your experience at the drag strip, does the helmet have to be snell 2005. My Scorpion EXO-500 is not.

As long as its a full face, they never check.

So this is what they will look for,

1) Shoes must cover ankles
2) Must wear pants (sweat pants do not count) If your bike runs over 120 must be leather pants!!!
3) Must wear some sort of jacket, I only had on my back protector gear last time I raced, I will bring my leather just in case, but have never had a problem in the past
4) Make sure your bike is not leaking anything...if it is leaking they will NOT let you race!

It is best to be at the strip by 6, this way you can get through inspection and be ready when the track actually opens for racing. Racing starts at 6:30pm, for each run you will receive a time slip. I will be happy to teach you how to perfect your reaction times, if anybody wants to meet up and learn how to slip the clutch before the date posted just let me know

If my closing date on my house stays as is I won't be able to make it BUT if they change it I am definitely there with BOTH the Ninja and the BuSa! I am still putting together gear - leathers and such. Havent found any that fit right or that I liked so I will borrow some from a buddy for that night. We shall see though! I am wanting to go do something like that so bad but am not trying to get pumped about it til I know I can make it for sure. I know I will want to do it in the near future though if I cant get out on the 28th.

I look forward to beating Darren and Neil...I meant seeing you all this Friday

Weather is looking good and as always will be bringing a camera

Remember its $20 to race and they only take cash so bring cash

Open at 6pm, track open to run at 6:30pm, you have to go through inspection before allowed on the track...They really just check to see if you are leaking anything.

Did any of you want to meet up and ride down as a group or just meet at the track?

My house closing is Friday but they are talking about it changing. I hope it doesn't - obviously I would rather get my house then drag my 250 BUT if the date changes then Ill be there and will enjoy trying to get my "little girl" down that track as fast as possible. If I am able to get ALL my leathers I will be bringing the BUSA too! Either way it will be a great day!!! House or Track!?!?!
