It's gonna take work!

I think this is one of those projects where the only parts you keep are the engine and frame numbers
The other side of the fuel tank is particularly impressive.

It's hard to believe those are real bids.

Wait, as I entered this post, it changed to "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing." Maybe someone reported some shill bidding.

No click the link in my second post
The seller withdrew the first listing because he didn't know what it was and the listing was full of errors
The $15000 is for the relisting as an RGS

Given that those bikes were only made for two years and just over 1500 were produced, I am not at all surprised it went for that much.

I know what the Gold Stars and parts in my possession are worth.

All I see is bidding has ended.

Yes, I goofed and didn't scroll down enough to see the actual listing, when I clicked your 2nd URL. That's hard to imagine that selling price being real, but RacinNinja knows more about it than I do, that's for sure.

I do know that lots of guys hear that Kawasaki H1s and H2s are worth big money, so they'll try to get thousands of bucks for examples that look like that BSA, only to find out they're next to worthless. You can buy a junk H2 covered in rust and put $15,000 into restoring it, and then sell it for $12,000.

Good to have someone knowledgeable.
Would I be right in assuming the bike is the same as the far more plentiful Rocket except for some engine internals and a CR gearbox?

Catalina's (singles) will go for a hefty $22-25K or more British pounds. Over there, they are even rarer than they are over here. The Brits are eating them up as fast as they can find them here in the states, let alone a native UK bike. The Rockets aren't nearly as popular but they do seem to be a bit harder to find.

Rocket Gold Stars here average $18,000 or so. They are fairly rare. The regular A10 twins are much cheaper. It's the Rocket Gold Star part of this that makes it special. Expect to pay more overseas. A NON-numbers matching RGS will go for $16K or more British pounds, so imagine what an original numbers matching machine would go for.

The thing is, you can make a knock off fairly easily since the Rocket Gold Star was built at the factory with a combination of existing off the shelf parts and go for 8-10K British pounds. Originals are in short supply..............

RRT2 gearbox, 190mm front brake, quick detach rear wheel, Super Rocket alloy head, racing magneto and a few other things.

Knockoffs are fairly common since it's just a mash up of off the shelf parts. However, they only go for 8-10K British pounds.

The REALLY rare ones are the scamblers. Only 272 were made with high scambler pipes and the RRT2 SCT gear box for the dirt.

I will agree, though, that if it really did sell for that much it's totally ridiculous. While the frame and engine are numbers matching, the rest of the parts will be hard to come by. Maybe I should message whomever bought it and offload a few things...................

You would have loved the eccentric pre decimal British Sterling (Up till 1971)

2 farthings = 1 ha'penny
4 farthings = 1 penny
12 pennies = 1 shilling
20 shillings = 1 pound

and the sub coins
2 shillings a florin
5 shillings a crown
2 shillings and sixpence = half a crown
1 pound+ 1 shilling = a guinea

How we British schoolboys envied your nice simple Dollars and cents

Sounds a bit complicated but is it similar to our nickel = 5 pennies, dime = 10 pennies and a quarter = 25 pennies?
