did your bike sputter before you had a hole in the muffler? does the bike continue past 7.5K w/o problems?

can you post a pic of the hole in the muffler?

perhaps a quick fix with some aluminum tape to seal the hole can tell you if it's the cause of the sputtering.

it might... but I would suspect the hole in the muffler if this started right after that happened. always start w/ the easiest fix first.

btw, how many miles since the last valve adjustment?

lol i dont know! it has like 16k overall. Its an 05. The PO had let it sit from JAn. - April and I dont think ANY service was done on it. I am takin it to Rev Tek tomorrow for valve adjustment and CCT replacement. Cuz there is a clacking noise coming from the tp of the engine on the right hand side.

Interesting to see what happens when you plug the hole. Might have leaned up a bit with the accidently freer flowing exhaust?

Carb clean

Hey there. I didin't think the hole was the culprit originally when reading it how ever I was suspicious. Since you've plugged the hole and are still getting ill effects, the next thing I would jump on would be a thorough carb cleaning assault with a small copper wire in hand as well. 7.5 is right about where the biggest part of the main jet comes into play how ever it does affect everything below it as well. These carbs can get get a little tacky in there so easily...=/

When rejetting for my Muzzy, that was where the hard cold/warmed up acceleration took place to determin the proper main jet size. Mine have been clogged a couple times. Grab some carb cleaner and some 18 gauge copper wire and declare war.
