I would talk to a different agent from Allstate. For me they combined my car and motorcycle which alloys the UI coverage on the car to cover the bike. And for a 2012 HD 883L it will cost me $200+ for the year for about the same coverage as you have. Of course I am in my 30's and in FL which has large influence on the premium. I would still discuss things with them to find the best deal.
In fact Allstate basically is getting me car/bike/home for around $187/mo. That's a lot of coverage for less than $200/mo.

Get the highest coverages you can possibly afford. Also, check with the companies ratings to see how well they pay out. My Nationwide policy costs a little more than Progressive or State Farm but they pay out very well, and very quickly.

I may boost my medical coverage stuff if anything, though. I might consider the UI if I wasn't in college full time and only working part-time, thus having crappy income. The USAF will fix that soon though :P |

Anyway, here in SC my wife and I have comprehensive, uninsured, under insured and liability for $213 on two bikes with progressive. Your quotes of 580'ish a year seems really high. We are both >39 years old. |

I called the 1-800 All State number and that was the quote I got. She said she would not be able to put it on the same policy as my car. It would be a separate policy.
As far as the highest I can afford, well that is pretty much it I suppose. Since progressive was the cheapest I could bump up the bodily injury and UI/UM coverages but for my state I guess the highest the will go is 2-300k. I guess at the highest with progressive it would bump it up to about 80-90 a month. My car insurance is $213 a month. And you guys may be a lot older, I'm 25 but my rates never seem to have gone down. All pretty much I guess because of that one accident 3 years ago. |

Since the population in Mid TN is low I would agree that your chances of being in an accident are lower. HOWEVER.... In Mid TN I would think that more people are uninsured.
I don't know exactly where you are at but the rural folk in that area don't usually carry insurance on their farm trucks and what not. |

Makes sense. Insurance is like ATGATT... It's a pain when you don't need it but a lifesaver when you do need it.

I didn't even bother trying with Geico as it seems to be way more. Oh and thanks for merging the thread, I had forgotten.
I wish insurance was less where I lived but even if I am in the suburbs its still considered the city area. I made sure to choose uninsured/Underinsured because in my city the statistics are that 40% are not insured, that's more than the whole state according to filed claims. |

Yes, you're clearly safe because it's the law there unlike every other state in the US where insurance is optional.
Nice racial profiling there too. I guess the white female, former US Navy seaman that hit me last summer and didn't have current insurance was just my imagination. It obviously had to have been one of the Mexican illegals instead, I just imagined they were a white female is all. Phew, thanks for clearing that up. Just because it's the law, just because you live in a "wealthy" area, doesn't mean that the person that hits you is fully insured. But hey, you're fine because unlike here in FL, it's the law to have insurance there and no one dares breaks the law with something so small as insurance. /sarcasm off

I'll tell you I'm 16 and a male with clean driving records and I get full (slightly altered but still considered full according to progressive) coverage from Progressive for just 45$ a month. Can't beat that for my age! Keep in mind that's on a 2006 Ninja 250

Turns out progressive is now $796 a year. It does not run your MVR until the end and I think it counts the number of incidents, and that is why it shot up so much because of the accident in 2009 that was my fault and one accident that I was not at fault earlier this year.
Called allstate and they said they could not match their price either even though I have renters and auto with them. They turned out to be $890 a year. I may not even get the bike now |

I pay $121/year with progressive for just liability, everything minimum. It's only $142 total for comprehensive as well ($500 deductible) so I'm adding that mainly for theft. I'm 19 with two at fault accidents and one not at fault in the past three years. Geico and allstate wouldn't even insure me with my driving record so i was surprised I got this low with progressive. With the highest un/um coverage and medical it was somewhere around $250-300/year. once I'm not scraping by i plan on upping the uninsured a bit.

I have 50/100/50 with progressive but rejected underinsured and uninsured. Now I am kind of rethinking that...I don't think it's that much more to get it, maybe a few bucks a month.
Right now I pay $24 a month. I switched car insurance companies and the savings from that switch pay my entire bike insurance plus some lol. |

Policy coverages:
Bodily Injury & Property Damage: $50,000 person/$100,000 accident/$25,000 property damage Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $25,000 person/$50,000 accident Medical Payments: $2,500 each person Vehicle coverages for 2010 KAWASAKI EX250 : Physical Damage Options: Actual Cash Value Comprehensive: $100 deductible Collision: $500 deductible Disappearing Deductibles: No coverage Uninsured Motorist Property Damage: No coverage Roadside Assistance: Selected Accessory coverage: $3,000 (Included) $198 for the year. Didn't get the disappearing deductibles since I'm 90% sure I'm selling the bike off next year when I graduate/move for a job. Figure it'll be cheaper to buy another one than pay a bunch of cash to ship it. I was hoping for a combined car and motorcycle discount, but car insurance was a lot more than it is now if I switched to Progressive. |

Man all these people with 50k liability and low or no uninsured/underinsured. Upgrade your policies, it doesn't even cost that much more. Want to know what breaking a femur costs? $76,000 And that is a simple injury for a motorcycle accident. Imagine what even slightly more serious injuries can cost. There is a guy on this forum who broke his collar bone in a crash, $280,000. That crash would **** up your financial life far more than your physical body. And what happens if you are in an accident with someone who has the same low rate policy as you? Well, you might as well grab a fat dick and **** yourself in the ass.
Seriously, upgrade your policies to a 250k. Pay the extra $50 per year for it, it's worth every penny

I 100% agree with Jiggles. Increase your coverages if you can afford it.
I've had two accidents in the last year. The first, I was in my car and some schmuck texting rear ended me. The other was a week ago when I wrecked my 250. I had GEICO then and just switched to Progressive today. Also, I'm a 21 year old male. Here's my coverages and what each costs: Coverage & Premium Information 2004 Kawas BODILY INJURY & PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY $83.00 -BI $100,000 EACH PERSON - $300,000 EACH ACCIDENT -PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY - $50,000 EACH ACCIDENT UNINSURED MOTORISTS $129.00 -BI $100,000 EACH PERSON/$300,000 EACH ACCIDENT -PROPERTY DAMAGE $50,000 EACH ACCIDENT MEDICAL EXPENSE BENEFITS $10,000 LIMIT PER PERSON $149.00 OTHER THAN COLLISION $100 DEDUCTIBLE $18.00 COLLISION $100 DEDUCTIBLE $110.00 TOWING & LABOR COSTS $75 PER DISABLEMENT $10.00 Premium by Vehicle $499.00 Total Policy Premium $499.00 |

what i don't understand is the relationship between auto insurance and health insurance. i would think that what your auto insurance doesn't pay, your health insurance picks up (minus your agreed upon deductibles/copay/etc.).
or is it just a question of how long it takes to get the money from them? |

Many (perhaps most) auto and motorcycle insurance policies don't include any medical coverage for the policyholder. All of that bodily injury limit for individual and per accident isn't for you, it's for the other party in the accident who you hit.
If you are injured, it is your own health insurance that covers (some) of your medical costs. There are some vehicle insurance policies that do include some medical coverage for the policyholder, but those are usually split out separately. It should not be assumed that your own insurance company will cover any of your medical expenses. Some of those exceptions are the Uninsured/Underinsured clauses in some policies. The intent of those is that in the case that you are hit by someone without insurance, or without enough insurance, your policy then would help out by covering some of your medical expenses. It also sometimes covers lost wages, which medical insurance alone would almost never do. EDIT: I see that there is a medical insurance cost in the coverage discussion 2 posts up, that is capped at $10K. From that description, it looks like this would be additional medical coverage for the policyholder. It might be secondary coverage (first you need to go through your primary medical insurance, then submit what's left here). Whether $149/year for $10K worth of coverage is a great deal or a horrible deal is really up to that individual's own situation. Bottom line, if you're not sure what your coverage is, talk to your agent and keep asking questions until you are completely sure. It's too important to not know the ramifications until after the worst comes to pass.

Alex has made a good point and I should also point out that my reasoning for wanting high liability (250k+) is so that it also raises the uninsured/underinsured. I think it is quite unlikely that you would ever need 100k liability, your motorcycle isn't going to cause that much damage to someone unless you ran them over, but it's clear (just by looking at this thread) that most people drive around without enough coverage and many without coverage at all. So what happens when that guy who makes $9/hr runs you over with his only asset and a 30k policy? You'll be wishing you plopped down that extra $50/yr for a 250k with underinsured

very true..i think i am going to finally get around to increasing my coverage this weekend. thanks alex for explaining how that all worked. i was going to hope (that i never get hit in the first place of course) that medical would cover everything but wages are very important too. better be safe than sorry.
just gotta cut out a few trips to starbucks..no problemo! |

Mine is with Progressive full coverage on both bikes and its 1150/yr. Im 40, married, with a clean record. The sad part is that my 250 is like 200 dollars of that. |
