Atlanta 2012

The last Atlanta Ga Riders thread is getting kind of old. I know some of the guys there aren't even riding anymore. So thought I would start a new role call and see who's still around and meet the new folks. Weather channel says mid 60's friday and saturday in firsts week of January so Ill be out?
Anyone else out there?

God, I'm greatly tempted to make the 5-6 hour trip to ATL just to hang out and ride with a fellow ninjette'er. I have taken to stalking bikers on the streets just to bath in the warmth of biker comradeship, but I'm afraid one of these days, I'm either going to end up in jail facing motorcyclist harassment charges or with a black eye for my troubles.

joel - good idea on the thread refresh. glad to here you kept the 2fiddy after you got the gixxer. hard to balance the wifey and 2 kids with ridin, but i'm down whenever i can. bout the only thing i winterize is my lawnmower

alex - maybe we can get a ride/meetup to Barber Museum, might shave an hour or 2 off your trip?

yeah I couldn't let it go. just waiting for someone to finally make trackskins for it so I can track it. No way Im winterizing at this point. shortest day is behind us. can only go up from here. Id be down for a trip to Barber in the spring fo sho or anytime for a local meet up. Im gonna cruise by this Spot tom after work for about an hour

hey new on here also, and had to move to Dublin Ga last August but the fiance and and I hate it here and are going to move back to North Ga in a few months, my kids are in Ellijay and hers are in Canton so we do alot of traveling, would love to meet some other riders and couples to ride and hang out with and not feel so on our on when we take rides and camping trips.

Reporting back: I called two places that opened at 9AM before getting tired and just negotiating. Cycle City in Newnan said $50 + tire disposal and wheel weights ($3 disposal per tire). I told them that I got $40 for both tires at FBC in San Diego and that I expected to find something for less than that here (they were the most notoriously expensive dealer in SD; $30 for one tire, $20 each for two+). I indicated that I would call them back if I could not find anything nearby with a better price.

The next place I called was Big Daddy's Cycle in Fayetteville. These guys told be it was $45 PER TIRE. I made sure that they understood that I was driving loose tires to them and that they would not be unmounting/mounting on the bike. After yelling at them for their prices being "WAY out of line with customer expectations," I told them that if they couldn't do any better then they were driving their customers to consider buying a tire machine and compete with them. They only replied that they do about 6 per day, as if that changed anything. Many of those people probably bought the tired there and the majority probably rode their bikes in (it seems that there is little/no discount for loose mounts).

I had been awake since the previous morning due to a graveyard shift, so I did not want to wait until 10AM to continue making calls. Instead, I called Cycle City back and told them just that: I want to go to sleep but other dealers don't open for another hour so if they can match the $40 I paid at FBC I will not bother calling their competitors and bring them in right away instead. They said that they could accept no liability and I would have to balance and dispose of the tires myself, which was perfectly fine by me.

It turns out that they balanced them for me anyway.

The thing to take away from this is that it's at least possible to negotiate a $40 loose mount for two tires in the metro area. Oh! And I am strongly considering getting a tire machine.
