Holy Crap Touring pants are baggy

Title says it all. I'm doing a 200 mile run to Virginia Beach this Friday and needed some sort of water proof pants with the possible rain. I thought I ordered some regular textile riding pants, turns out I ordered A* Andes Drystar and they're touring pants. They make me look like I gained 100lbs in my legs haha (I have very skinny legs). Had briefly thought of returning them cause I just wanted regular riding pants, sort of like leathers. Think I should keep em for future long distance rides? Would the slimmer leather/textile pants not be as comfy?

personally, I'd get the same thing in a smaller size if that's the case or are they the right size just really baggy to accommodate layers below it.

It was the smallest it went. They fit fine waist wise. I thought maybe it was just the nature of touring pants to be poofy/baggy? Idk.

that could be the case, not really familiar with touring gear though. I'd trade them for something that fits a bit tighter, doesn't have to be skin tight but tight enough to where the protective padding and such doesn't move around since it'll protect you better if it stays in place properly.

It's probably fine then, still up to you though. If you prefer a tighter fit then go for it if you're fine with the baggy fit keep it. really up to that.

I wanted to get some leather pants anyway, but just wasn't sure how that compares on long distance rides. Perhaps Ill just keep these incase I ever want to do some long distance adventuring.

you should be fine with the leather pants on longer rides. the bagginess of the touring pants will probably help with winter riding though, extra extra layers would be really helpful for you.

True that, it would probably make it more tolerable to ride next winter. I have the money for it, so I think I'll just get leathers and have the best of both worlds

I've noticed that most of the folks on this forum prefer leather gear over textile gear. Could be average age of participants, could be high percentage of racers and racer-wannabes. Textile gear is better in the rain and is good for at least one tumble.

Baggy pants? Welcome to a glimpse of middle age, kid!

I prefer also textile for commuting purposes, my jacket is a textile jacket. Leather is a must for gloves and any suit you want to take on a canyon run or track day though.

The bagginess is probably due to them being designed to wear over street gear of layers for multi season riding. My Tourmaster pants are very baggy but as soon as i add layers underneath they tighten up so the armor doesn't move.

I read riding pants are meant to be worn tight, like regular leather gear, with no room underneath for layers.

Cameron needs a pair of jodhpurs with EN1621-1 armor in the knees. And a riding crop.

It is designed for multi season riding, so that's probably it. I actually removed the armor since I have Dainese Knee Guard Vs that are more solid and cover my shin as well as the knee.

HAHA that would be a sight.

On a positive note, I took the bike out for a ride in 35 degree whether in these pants (and my new armored A* compression shorts) and oh man was it nice and comfy/warm. I'm definitely keeping these. They definitely increased my min temp tolerance for riding. They also appear much less baggy with all my gear on and the Dainese knee guards on the outside.
