Really surprised how much different my bike sounds with pod air filter mod.

When I bought my bike a year or so ago, I had to rebuild both carbs. I decided right away that I was not going to put up with trying to take the carbs in and out with the factory air box in place. So, after reading about the airbox mods people have done around here, I removed the factory air box and replaced it with a dual K&N after market pod filter.

I then went to 130 main jets and shimmed the carb needles(2 shims).

The bike ran great after the carb rebuild and the pod mod. I ended up adjusting the air adjustment screws 2 3/4 turns out.

But, I was amazed how much louder the bike was on acceleration. When you are sitting on the bike, the intake which is right below your legs, gives you as much noise or maybe even more than the exhaust which exits behind you. You really hear the carbs opening.

In my opinion, it makes the pregen bike sound like an old classic motorcycle. I love the sound. In my opinion, it sounds when you get on the throttle, like an old Triumph or BSA 250.

Anyway, after almost a year running the K&N pod, I am very happy with the results. The bike seems to have more power, sounds great and it is super easy to work on or to remove the carbs.

I would recommend the mod to any Pregen Ninja 250 owner.

I really like the very quiet engine of my '05 250. Once I'm over about 50 mph, the wind noise overpowers the engine noise and it's like I'm on an electric motorcycle.

I can understand that. I have a full helmet on and once I get up around 55-60, the sound from the pod is still like a throbbing in your ears. Some would probably want to wear ear plugs. But not me. I like it. I honestly feel like I'm on an old BSA thumper.

That is why I wrote this thread. People need to think about this before they go to the pod air filter. Personally, I would do it again, but I understand those that would find it too loud.

Compared to the newer FI models, it is like a completely different bike. You actually FEEL the carb sucking air. Think about that before you consider doing this mod.
