Thanks for the feedback guys. I have been atgatt except for knee protection and wasn't sure what to get. I just ordered the 65 dollar icons based on your positive experience with them. I assume they would fit okay under my slightly loose fitting jeans. Look forward to trying them out!

Let me know how comfortable it is and how easy it is to put on and take off. I find the Knox Cross Guards (long) to be fairly easy to put on and take off without removing my shoes so that's always a plus.

Hey Kelly, are the shorties comfortable and would they fit above Sidi boots?

I would guess it would depend which SIDI boots you have. I have touring type boots which are cut a bit shorter than a standard "race" type boot.

as far as comfort, I also use these pads when I go dirt bike riding and have had no problems with them being uncomfortable or moving out of place even after hours of trail riding.

When I was riding home from the dealer 600miles away, I wasn't taking any chances because I had never been on the streets (just my MSF course). I bought some cheapies meant for off-road or ATV riders and wore them then. I haven't worn them since. They didn't really have anything to keep the cap part on my knees and they'd stick out and flap all over when I scrunch up on the pegs. That said, I do wear some pads from Harbor Freight when I have to get down on my knees on the pavement to work on the bike.

The knee-cap cup is meant to be held in place by pants. Wearing them incorrectly (on the outside) would indeed result in the unfavorable characteristics.

The ones I have were meant to be worn on the outside. They were off-road-style. There's no way they would fit under anything else.

I wear these under leather pants in the winter and under scorpion mesh pants (which have a built-in knee pad) in the warmer months:

Aah. Well that just sounds like a crappy design, which doesn't necessarily reflect knee pads in general . I wear mine for hours a day. Hell, often I will get home and not take them off until I need to undress, hah.

Low-sided today. Slid long enough on my leg in one spot that there are a few small patches where the actual kevlar lining of my pants wore through. Still, the knee armor completely prevented any injury (like, I'm not even sore)!

Best $13 I ever spent.

Biggest annoyance is that the right peg broke off, so riding has required proping my right heel on the top of the rearset. I also had to hammer the right bar straight just so i could limp it around. But, I already had a new exhaust on the way, was getting ready to paint the bike, and was considering clipons and rearsets anyways :P

Glad you are okay. See it is worth it, that's how I felt when I lowsided. I'm happy I made the decision early on to get knee pads since at first I didn't even consider it till I rode around and felt like I needed protection there.

Got a pair of Thor for $15 shipped. They fit well under jeans and are great with boots. Not bad to walk around, the pad stays in place.

Ah nice! I remember looking at those. Yeah I typically put mine on in the morning when I get dressed, and don't take them off until I change for work in the afternoons. Then when I put them back on for the commute home, I don't take them off until I'm getting ready for bed. I even jog a bit with my dogs while wearing the pads, with the mornings now cold enough that I don't get hot.

Just got my new Icon Field Armor knee/shin protectors. Easy to put on, fit well under my pants for commute to work and under jeans, and not at all obvious you have them on. Cooler than I expected, don't know how I'm not hot wearing these in the tropics. Very comfortable - enough to just wear around if you were so inclined. Best way to put them on is to keep the lower velcro strapped and slide on - they go on easy.

Video below indicative of good videos at sportbiketrackgear.com. Great quote from the video: "This has been an incredible seller, and there is good reason for it. Because this sh*t can be dangerous."

Link to original page on YouTube.

All that said, pants are better - abrasion protection, hip and tailbone impact protection.

They fill great very sung and they don't stick out under pants. The pad covers from the top of my boot to the bottom of my Bhon Adventure Shorts. They sell for $13 and they have a money back guarantee. I like them better than my thor knee pads. I don't think you can find a better knee pad for the money.
This is what I wear from the waist down.

Do any of these actually fit on you while wearing full length boots? They all seem like they extend down the shin, my tall boots already cover alot of the shin, i am just not sure that alot of these wouldn't overlap each other

I have no overlap. The pad and shorts have a small bit of space between them. The bottom of the knee pad goes just to the top of the boots. I wear size 34 jeans normally but with the ridding setup I found a size 36 jeans to be a great fit.
I can wear this setup all day with ease at work, or just out around town all day. The Oxtar boots are like walking on clouds, the knee pads fit so well, and the shorts are solid. I also wear a Shoie RF-1000 (White), Speed and Strength textile jacket, and leather, kevlar gauntlet gloves.
When I take the MFS next week, I'll be good to go.

I'm still finding bits of asphalt in my knees from a crash almost 40 years ago. So I was wearing motocross-style hard shell kneepads when some idiot swerved into me head on. I took out his driver's side headlight with my left knee and departed airborne. No injuries other than some bruising and a torn hamstring. Kevlar jacket, Shopei helmet and Kevlar gauntlet gloves helped, too.

Kim, nice story! Glad you are ok. Im sure a combined 80mph knee collision without the armor would have ended much worse . And to be clear, the headlight and knee-asphault incidents are two different events, right?

GogoKawi, you need to find a more comfortable pair, or perhaps just loosen yours. Trust me, they are out there. I put on my knee armor when I get dressed in the morning, and leave them on til get undressed before bed. Daily activities including walking and jogging the dogs a mile or two, and sitting in class for several hours. They only occasionally require mild adjustment, especially when sitting.

To be clear, the headlight collision was relatively low speed, not 80 mph. If you've seen IRT-Worlds Deadliest Roads on the History Channel, you've seen the location. No one goes too fast on those roads. And, yes, the headlight and knee-asphalt incidents are two diiferent events, separated by nearly 40 years.

I have knee pads but only really wear them when I ride more aggressively on mountain roads. Just before Christmas I bought Tourmaster quest riding pants that have hip padding and knee armor. I do a lot of commuting in 15F-50F so these help a lot with wind, rain, and warmth over my jeans. I also use them with just shorts under them when I go play tennis (indoors this time of year). Don't know how how well they will work in summer afternoons at 70F+. Only had one day over 60F that I road to play tennis with just shorts under them and it worked out fine. Location: Asheville, NC

Don't buy these pads...I don't think they will help as well as other knee pads on the market...Not think enough, and could use more padding...I've gone back to my Thor knee pads for now...They give me a better since of security...

i just got the icon leg armor from ebay yesterday. im 5"11, and it fits well even though its only one size thanks to the adjustable velcro straps. my pants fit over them and i usually wear slim leg pants. the only trouble i have right now is that it feels like the knee cap part rests a little bit lower when my knees are bent. the armor is very sturdy and i feel like i can wear them all day long even when im off the bike.
