The xmen suit is kinda blegh, Batman can do no wrong kinda like chuck norris so that Tracksuit is I'm except for the cuffs, the IRON MAN suit is hard gay, and the new TRON suit looks dumb, but it has luminous strips that are good for visibility.
Lots of gear farkles like ears Mohawks and the spines are dumb admittedly, but if it gets other drivers to notice you, it may help save your life.
I kinda like the idea of a propeller to attach to the rear of my helmet to spin at speed kinda like the dummy kids hats of yesteryear.

Icon promotes a chest protector they sell which is good for motocross but they market it for streetbikes which is dumb since with our large tanks you are more likely to need a cup than a chest plate.

I fail to see what is ridiculous about a Vanson Leather jacket in a Cafe Racer style. I understand it a replica screen jacket but it's still a classic style and actually offers serious protection. Maybe you're implying the guy dressing up like Wolverine is ridiculous and that may be the case but I would wager that if you had the chance to see the jacket in person you'd be impressed by the quality.

OMFG! I was driving home in my cage from the University today, when I just about sh!t myself. I saw some knukle-head on some type of sport bike pass by in the opposite direction with no shirt on! I was so taken back by this, that I can't even remember if I saw him wearing a helmet. I usually don't make it a habit to wish harm onto anyone, but in this case I remember saying to myself I hope he gets in an accident, as then maybe he will learn something. However, as I continued to drive home I thought to myself that a tool like that probably is either too drugged out or too ignorant to care one way or another, so him simply getting in an accident simply wouldn't change anything, except maybe be a nice marketing campaign on why riders should wear protective clothing.

The easiest way to spot worthless gear is to look for the tag that says ICON.

Icon makes some good gear! It's just how they advertise it, you know, guys in old 'Stangs and Camaros chasing a guy on a B-King with guns while he powerslides around cars and stuff...

I mentioned this in my Short-Riding-Pants thread.

I bought an Icon Contra. A week or so later under minimal riding time, the ventilated part of the right arm's stitching broke. 800km later, the button that straps the end of the sleeve broke off.

I'm gonna try my best not to buy anymore Icon gear even though they look good and cheap.

My dealership was gonna take it back for a refund. They said I could still ride it for this season and give it back before it ends since I still have a year warranty on it.

The ****** part is, after they said this, I got into a minor accident a few days later. A minor scratch on the back but no tear. I wonder if they'll accept it still (them or Icon).

Well, myself and many others have Icon gear and it has served us just fine. IMHO, you can argue all day long about what brand gear is better than another, but what it comes down to is personal preference and matter of opinion. This goes for about just anything and one usually becomes stuck on a certain brand or has strong feelings about others, as they get older.

For example, my grandmother for the longest time would not buy anything but Zenith TVs and appliances, as anything else to her was not good enough. She would also only go to one store in town to buy it from even if it meant she was going to pay more for it than if she was to buy it from some where else. This is what she had been doing for so many years and there was no convincing her otherwise. Could she have saved money and even purchased something comparable or even better? Most likely, but that doesn't mean she would have been happy.

So, when it comes down to it, especially since it is your money, is that you purchase riding gear that you are comfortable and pleased with. Not every brand is going to be right for everyone, which is why there is more than one to choose from. What one likes and has found to work for them may not be true for someone else, and quite frankly I could care less what anyone else is wearing or using, as to me all that matters is that they are protected and comfortable because I know I will be.

What the? I don't even. I'm just. Sigh.

"The sandal has been specifically designed to protect their feet while riding bikes,” Bata’s Bangladesh marketing manager, said at a press briefing in Dhaka. Yeaaaaah. Okay buddy. I'll have what he's smoking.

I think he meant riding, not crashing. Like, the sandal protects your foot from the shifter/brake and stays on, but doesn't help much with crashing.

From another thread, but it deserved to be put into our ridiculous gear museum: The world's most expensive fanny pack.

The horns are actually quite useful. They serve as outstanding indicators that the rider is a complete tool.

I have a black ICON helmet that I got on clearance. Do you guys think those horns will fit?!! It would be hilarious to ride around with those. I could laugh at all the dumb looks people would give me.

A little while back I passed a guy on a scooter wearing a construction hard hat. There was no chin strap or anything and lets just say he didn't look like he was going to/from a construction site.

When I lived in China, I saw quite a few motorcyclists sporting equestrian helmets. Better than a construction hard hat, I suppose, but it made me wonder why. Not like Shanghai or Beijing have huge numbers of horses running around.
