Not the best ankle protection, but better than nothing. The thing about motorcycles is that they are inherently risky. If you really want to minimize the risk, drive a minivan with an 8 gauge steel roll bar, automatic seat belts and 50 air bags.

Would you guys recommend a full riding boot that covers your shin, for daily commuting. Can I wear a pair of jeans over them?

I was looking for a pair and cant decide between the ones which cover only your ankle or the ones that come up right till the shin...

You can always keep a pair of shoes at work to change into.

Well, I just put in my order at the local Cycle Gear for a pair of Sidi Vertigo boots, so when those come in, that's what I'll be wearing.

Black, I put the order in over the phone, so didn't want to risk the white ones looking like crap, and black boots will work nicely with my black bike.

Gore-Tex version of the Sidi B-2. It's all black so a bit less conspicuous when walking into the office building, though they creak just a little when I walk.

I "had" those, but I upgraded to something else, it scares me that it doesn't really have any ankle protection.

So CycleGear forgot to put in the order for my boots (the SIDI Vertigo). He said I may want to reconsider anyways though; he said for the same price he finds the Dianese TRQ Race Outs better, and for an extra $50, he'd say the A*s SMX-Plus are way better. He also said the SIDI boots squeak.

The smx plus squeaked until this year when they redesigned the boot. Also, Id shoot for the Dainese TRQ Race In rather than the outs, but i guess thats all dependent on whether your going to wear the boots over your pants or under/ also applies to your race suit.

I've heard a few people say that. Mine do not, however everybody I talked to that says theirs squeaked also said the squeak went away with a quick shot of silicone lubricant.
