Sort of...

This is for the 2009 tax year - so it's the return you file in April 15, 2010. So you're good there.

But you're not getting your sales tax back. You're getting a deduction - so it'll end up saving you ~$75, depending on how much your state taxes and your tax bracket. It's nice, but it's not enough to make a purchased based on that alone.

This is pretty cool actually, in that it says you can take it even if you don't itemize.

Ok I got you. I agree not very much incentive to purchase a new motorcycle but I suppose every bit of money helps right?

I got my 08 in June 08. The bike was priced at $3699, Sales Tax was $200, and Documentation was $25.00. OTD, I was at $3924. I paid with the Kawasaki Card and paid the bike off in six months with no interest.

I actually did buy mine on the HSBC Kawi card - 6 months no interest no payments meant that I could keep my $4000 in the bank and earn a little money on it before I paid the bike off.
That's different.
If you have the cash to pay it off then I guess that would be a good idea.
However, I know a guy who purchased a used Denali for 21k with his cc and made monthly payment to his cc. I'm wondering if he's still making monthy payment.

Good luck finding one in the fall.

Last year after the gas hike. Not a sinlge dealer in my state had one so I had to wait for the 2009. I got mine as soon as they were in and rode it home with snow still on the ground.

The freight, assembly and set up total 574.00 for this bike.

So that is like $4573 right there off the bat and tax would bring it to about $4900. That's not exact but already I'm up there for OTD. Not sure where the other 200 accounts for. Maybe I should make the drive and talk to them in person but so far I'm looking elsewhere.
freight and assembly are something that the dealers don't have to charge you.
they will usually deduct that amount if you are serious.
tax & dmv fees you can't avoid.

Mine was $5300CDN OTD, that was msrp +tax, they didn't charge me freight or pdi or setup or any of that other stuff...I paid an additional $115 total for the rear cover. Same bike is now selling for ~$5800 or $5900 since they upd the price.

Thank you for the responses everyone. I'm going to go in and work something out with the dealers and see if I can get approved for the Kawasaki Card since I want to build up my credit and will have the cash for the bike by the end of this summer

Hey Dave sounds like you could have saved around 500 or so for the freight and assembly...bummer but you have your baby! What protection does the GTPP provide? Just like you I plan on keeping my bike indefinitely, even when I upgrade.

That should be correct. It has to be done in the upcoming tax season. I'd call just to make sure

I shopped around and the best I got was $4300 OTD with no extended warranty.
Here's what I pay for my insurance.
224/yr full coverage with mininum amount on liability ($25000).
I'm 27. My deductible is 250.
I have Rider.

I think your math is wrong.
3999+399+868+349 (assembly and prep)+tax+dmv does not = to 4885. if your otd after the down is 4885 then the 4885 is not really an otd price.
4885+1300=6185 otd.
if that's the case then they definitly riff you off.
