Mods to get the best MPG ?
Hi , my bike is gonna be for strictly commuting .. so i'm not looking for a speed demon.
What modifications can I do to my bike to increase the MPG of this already efficient machine? if there are any? I'm talking about the 08+ model. Also please leave some info on side effects for certain mods? Like if I change the gearing how it will effect my acceleration and stuff like that. I'm looking for a fuel efficient machine that can keep up with cars. THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS |

Your right hand is the biggest factor, by far. That and weight.
Upping the timing with an aftermarket ignition system would technically increase the engine's efficiency and thus require a little less throttle input (read: fuel used) for an amount of power needed. But even it got "several" MPG out of it (a generous proposal), that means you'd save an average of maybe $.50 per fill-up*. Thus, it would take 400 fillups to make up the cost of the $200 mod. 400 fillups at 50mpg (200 miles per tank, roughly) means you'd have to go 80,000 miles before you saved that 200 bucks :P . Now, that is also being generous in that both you would gain several MPG with the mod (doubtful), and that you would only get 50mpg (also doubtful, driving like you sound like you will). *This is, for the sake of simplicity, assuming you would be filling up in the same time or distance interval, and not filling up based on how much gas is in the tank. So whereas before you might fill up every week with 4 gallons, now you might only need like 3.75 gallons, or whatever). Basically, there isn't a lot you can do to increase the gas mileage, without it totally not being worth it.

^lol kkim +100000.
Steady consistent throttle. Nice slow acceleration from red lights. Using neutral when you can. Not using brakes often. Tucking in when there are high winds. I tried to hyper mile the 250 and I had less fun and also put myself in dangerous spots. Just be sensible when it comes to riding it and you'll save a lot. Also lose 40 pounds. |

One inexpensive thing you can do that may help is to check your tire pressure. Make sure it's not below the recommended psi. Remember psi will increase as the tire builds heat.

Buy a pre-gen :P
http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...50-a-8686.html Sorry... I couldn't help myself. It's a shame that the new-gen's get worse fuel mileage than the pre-gen's... otherwise I might own a new-gen. ..... Anyway, you can probably google "hyper-miling techniques", and you would find reading material that would last a good while. All the best
