HERE were some of the bike-related April Fools doing the rounds yesterday.

Helmet number plates introduced: “Victorian motorcyclists will need to display a front number plate from next month onwards, under new laws passed by the Victorian Government last night. Motorcyclists will need to visit their nearest VicRoads branch by 30 April and print out an envelope-sized sticker (at a cost of $19.95) – which they will need to attach to the front of their helmets.” By Australian Motorcycle News.

Country roads limited to 80kph for cars, 60kph for motorcycles: “Manuel Valls, France’s new Prime Minister, has announced that the speed limit on country roads will be limited starting on the 1st of January 2015 to 80kph, currently limited to 90kph. Motorcycles with a displacement bigger than 125cc, will see their speed limited to 60kph.“ By Bikes in the Fast Lane.

TT race set to take place in August on the Périphérique in Paris: “In an official statement, the French Motorcycling Federation is soon to confirm the creation of a Tourist Trophy race on the Périphérique in Paris, which should take place during the month of August 2014.” By MotoJournal.

Yamaha targets developing countries: “Zero emissions, zero fuel consumption, lightweight and aggressive price are elements put forward by the firm for the beginnings of this future promotional machine. A two-wheeler designed for the poorest countries….” By Motorevue.
