I've been there several times in various sportscars. Now I really need to go on my Ninjette.

Chasing the Dragon is overrated. The real fun is in south Florida. A1A during snowbird season is much more challenging.

LOL - you mean like avoiding Crown Victorias (Grand Marquis), and older Caddies and Lincolns.

Talking

Hey what days were you there, cause I was just there last week, Sept 12-17th!
Place was amazing, I went with 7 other riders all on various bikes.
My first time there, my husband's 3th time, so needless to say I was the cautious one when dealing with all the twisty roads.
BUT he did ask if he could take my 250 for a spin through the Gap, he said it was the fastest he's ever gone through there LOL

The tree of shame is covered in parts from bikes that have crashed there... I hope never to contribute to it.

The Tree of Shame is a tree at the Crossroads Motorcycle Lodge, right at the entrance of "The Dragon" at Deal's Gap. As you can see in the photo in the first post, affixed to this tree is a large collection of broken motorcycle parts, riding gear, crutches, and a few RIP memorials, all from crashes that have happened on the Dragon. It's funny and sad at the same time. A lot of people have gotten seriously hurt there.

Love the Gap! If I lived only an hour away, I'd be there practically every day!

I've been twice - once on my ZX-6R (trailered the bikes down with 7 friends for 3 days) and once with my R6 (just me and my hubby - rode the whole way - 3 days down, 2 days at the Gap and 3 days back - twisties all the way!)

The Gap is the best. There are a lot of great roads around it too - the Blue Ridge is quite nice. I'd recommend doing the Skyline Drive if you ever get a chance. It's beautiful!

Agree! Hubby and I are going to take the Blue Ridge Pkwy again in a couple of weeks. SOOOO excited! This is going to be more of a touring trip than usual, so we may not make it to Deal's Gap or the Cherohala this time.

Townsend TN

We just recently relocated to the area and live about 25 minutes from Deals Gap. In fact it is a great ride from Townsend over the Foothills Parkway. Bang a left on 129 and you are there. Very new to (street) riding and feel lucky to have all of these great roads. Also only about 3 minutes from the Smoky Mountains park as well. Went on a great ride to Cades Cove and then over Rich Mountain. This is an "unimproved" road so several miles of gravel road over the mountain. Saw wild turkeys and a huge buck. Let me know if you are in the area...

It's great to see some fellow east Tennesseans on here! I grew up close to Walland (just minutes from the dragon) and now live near Friendsville (the other side of Maryville). I'm picking up my bike tomorrow night then doing a little road worthy work to it. Hope to see ya'll one day!
