Question Solo seat cowl wiggles?

I just received my "solo" seat cowl off ebay (supposedly OEM) and after I install it I notice there is quite a bit of wiggle on the cowl even after it locks in...

Is this normal?

All the grommets and everything appear to be okay. I didn't expect for it to fit so loose. Wondering if I got a bad one.

Thanks.

I have the same problem with mine, though I don't know if that's normal or not.

Try adding some foam weatherstripping along the contact points or buy some longer stoppers to eliminate the wiggle.

I was told the easiest solution is to add some washers between the bracket on the bottom of the rear cowl. haven't tried yet but hope to soon.

So it looks like I am indeed not the only one. The cowl practically rattles on the bike... lol. You would think they'd design the thing better...

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I also found this interesting solution which suggests using velcro: http://www.kawiforums.com/ninja-250r...-included.html

I have the factory seat cowl.

It fits perfectly, snaps in place, no wiggles, etc. It shouldn't be loose. The rear grommet should snap in and hold it tightly. The front, you should have to push down on it a bit to compress the rubber standoffs, and then it clicks in place. With this slight compression on the rubber standoffs, it should be held in place tightly.

I also have a Kawasaki factory cowl and I think many people with these have the same issue. Pushing down has no effect. The rear is snapped I. And the front is locked down as well. It's not going come off but kind of annoying that ts not snug and tight

I agree with the above, you must be missing some parts or something. Because if you have all the correct factory mounting parts, there's really no way it can be loose. Unless maybe it's somehow way, way out of adjustment.

I tried for hours to make the cowl fit properly, finally decided to turn the front bracket around and cut another slot further down on the pin. It fits like a charm now

figured bringing up an old thread would be better than making yet another seat cowl thread.

Ever since i bought mine ive had problems with it. Blows my mind that these derp manufactures cant come up with a better locking mechanism.

Anyway, is there any better way to secure the back of the cowl? While at home depot i got my helmet from the helmet lock and proceeded to put it on my helmet and putting back the rear cowl, just to find out the rubber grommet got pushed out of the little socket yet again..so i ended up just putting the grommet in my backpack along with my seat cowl and got home with nothing on the rear seat area.

I know there are zipties but that wont really help as it'll just make the hole bigger, making it even less secure..

I had issues with the Ace grommet I bought after getting my cowl. It kept working its way out of the hole in the bracket. But after awhile, it seems to have settled into a fixed place and now I haven't had issues with it. Holds everything nicely, though the amount of crap I put back there is likely going to be an issue at some point.

You can buy the actual grommet for only a couple dollars off any major bike part store online.

I have the grommet, the problem is the grommet wont stay in properly. I even put glue on the inside to keep it stiff so it isnt so flimsy and it will still get pushed down with very little pressure. Which was why i decided to just put the whole rear cowl in my backpack because the back end flopping up/down due to the wind was irritating me. Has to be some way.

That's strange, my grommet was actually hard to get in because it fit tightly.

Does the cowl fit into the grommet tightly?

yeah, the grommet eventually gets pushed down the hole down into the little storage compartment so every time it does i end up putting it in my pocket and installing it again later, quite irritating.

Thinking about mine, the only thing i do different is look under the cowl to ensure that back peg lines un straight with the hole in the grommet before pushing it gently in and then snapping the front into place. Maybe its being easy on the back that keeps mine in. ?

haha probably. Once i know i have it right i generally use some force to push it in. Oddly enough the last 2 times the grommet has fallen out i was being super gentle . Think i might try putting glue on the inner lip of the grommet, all around it and then install it, maybe it'll stick to the frame that way,

I got one of those from the past owner and his came with a circle plastic rubber that holds it in place.
Not sure though cause i think it looks way better with both seat on
Reckon there is a trend about it somewhere up here.
