Remembering EthioKnight a year and a half later
So Aug 12th 2012 We lost a great and funny guy to a motorcycle accident. I was out doing some maintenance to my bike and I saw the memorial stickers I put on a year and a half ago and it made me grateful of 2 things. 1. Grateful that Ethio was apart of my life with his posts and his videos and 2. That I can say that his passing has given me a third eye to try and make sure the same doesn't happen to me. Thank you for teaching me a lesson without having to make the mistake. RIP Bro.

RIP, unfortunately he passed around the time that I first discovered ninjette so I didn't get to experience his presence on the forum like some of the veterans did. However, he seemed like a pretty chill guy who gave his life for what he loved to do. I only wish there were more people around like him; funny, clever, and passionate.

Everything happened before I joined but I am at least familiar with what had happened. I just went through the entire thread post by post and even knowing how it ends it was a tough read that really hit me.
I like to try and have a take away message from everything no matter how positive or negative the situation. It would seem that there was little he could have done in this instance and it was clearly no fault of his which makes it hard to learn from as you are left feeling a little helpless. But if you read there are many take home messages in that thread and unfortunately perhaps a little foreshadowing. I believe on page 3 or so there is a vid posted of one of his rides with some sketchy behavior, some people called it out one such post that stood out read as follows "Ok, seriously.... #1 davidreaper, have you watched twist of the wrist 2? I suggest you do because your form is all sorts of ****ed up (I knew ive seen your bike before, on zx6r.com) #2 if you are going to ride like a douche do it correctly and safely #3 Dont cross the double yellows unless people are going slow... The people on that bridge were going fast enough to make the 250 stuggle getting past #4 The other lane is for oncoming traffic, not your motorcycle #5 Those "corners" looked to be in housing areas... Why are you racing around in there? What if someone pulled out of an unmarked road I'm all for having a good time and pushing the envelope a little, but get yourself in check before you go ride like an ass. You two not only have to keep an eye on your shittie riding, you also need to think about the other cars because they wont stop for you. I'm guilty when it comes to pushing it but the difference is I know how to eliminate a lot of variables that I cause myself, you guys clearly don't" My take home is right here and I hope others get it as well. There are people on this board that sound like this when they post, sure it is good to call someone out and maybe just maybe a light might go off in their head and change their outlook on riding and the risks they take. BUT!! Please practice what you preach, in most instances you are no better than them and you do not have super human reflexes, you are not smarter than them, your gear is not any better, you are not the next Marc Marquez. In short, just keep it safe on the street, it is a tough ride out there even when you ride safely let alone when you ride recklessly and when reckless you will never be able to comprehend and or anticipate every single variable when riding on public roads let alone react in time and or correctly to them and it's only a matter of time before those odds catch up with you and how you will fair is anybody's guess. R.I.P.

@subxero: I think he was a pretty safe rider on the whole. I didn't see anything majorly reckless in that video or the other videos / stories he posted. He was so young too; still learning the art and best practices of riding: and he seemed to be taking the safety aspect of it quite seriously.
There's a rider on this forum ( @Darling Ninja ) with the signature: "You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck." Sadly for Ethio and for everyone that knew him, it seems he ran sh*t out of luck before he had the chance to fill his bag of experience. Who knows if his accident could have even been avoided; most are, but you occasionally get that exact place, at that exact speed in those exact conditions where the odds really are stacked against you. |

^ I agree with what you have said from what I have read regarding Ethio, it seemed like he was going through the proper paces. My post above is not so much about him as much as it is about another rider that his thread brings to light.
Digging up old posts can be like opening a time capsule. You can sort of peer into the past and see where people were and perhaps they are still around today and you can see where they are today. Sometimes you can draw a very linear path between the two time points which can be good or bad depending on where they started. Some people see the light and divert there path from what would seem to be a one way ticket to the hospital or even worse, and some don't see the light at all despite speaking the very words themselves but for some reason feel the rules don't apply to them. Unfortunately the post I highlighted seems to be an example of this. keep it safe in the streets my friends

If his riding in that video is reckless than I'm screwed if I don't get to a track, it didn't really look that bad to me his passes over double yellow seemed reasonable with no oncoming traffic and space to get back into the lane if he saw any. The residential stuff wasn't that quick paced though blowing corners was bad with some early turn ins that could mess him up if there was traffic headed the other way.

Holy ****, calm down. I am honestly appalled that people are so offended by curiosity. All the man said was three question marks. I read the crash thread a few weeks ago, I didn't know him, but I recognized him from YT, RIP.

doesn't matter how fast you're going if you get hit by a car head on, it'll hurt at any speed. Also are you saying that his riding irl is faster than it appears on video or slower that it appears on video?

some parts like him passing the cars on the bridge looked like he was going really slow but we all know he was hulling ass other parts look like he was going way to fast for safe riding but then a sec later it looks like he is only going 35-40 not the 65 it first looks like.

Not to me but I have looked at thousands of motorcycle videos but to a noob to motorcycle videos he is going light speed around them turns. Reading back on some of his old stuff it looks like he was not a big risk taker but rode in a fun spirited manner sure you can argue that is what the track is for but then why even ride a bike on the street if your not going to have some fun.
