The*AMA Hillclimb Grand Championship kicks off Aug. 5 in Red Wing, MN for 2017.

Begin Press Release:

Riders to battle for AMA championships in Minnesota

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — For the fifth time, the Indian Head Motorcycle Club will host America’s fastest amateur motorcycle and ATV hillclimb racers in Red Wing, Minn., on Aug. 5-6, as they compete in the 2017 AMA Hillclimb Grand Championship.

“Each year, the AMA Hillclimb Grand Championship showcases the top amateur hillclimb racers in their attempts to conquer the hill,” Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant said. “We are excited to watch these amateurs compete for one of 23 AMA National Championships on the line.”

Racers also will vie for awards recognizing the AMA Hillclimb Racer of the Year, AMA Vet/Senior Hillclimb Racer of the Year and AMA Youth Hillclimb Racer of the Year.

The King of the Hill award will be given to the fastest competitor in a run-off. The riders with the 10 fastest times during the weekend will compete for the honor in a one-run class at the end of the program on Sunday.

Gates open at 6 a.m. on both days of the event, with racing starting at 8 a.m. Admission is $10 per person each day; children 5 and younger are free.

Hillclimb is one of the AMA’s oldest racing disciplines, dating to the early 1900s. In the competition, the country’s best amateur motorcycle and ATV hillclimbers attempt to reach the top of the hill, with the winner determined by the quickest time.
