do you find the seat hard?

I've noticed that compaired to my 2000 zzr250 the new seat makes my butt hurt and fall asleep much faster. I used to do 2 hour rides with very little problem, but now after 30-40min I find I need a 2 min break and walk around.

Anyone else find this? does the seat get softer with time?

could i look at getting a gel seat or something like that????

I have an 05 and it takes about an hour for the seat to start feeling hard. At that point I pull over and stretch abit.

My commute is 40 miles in traffic... so well over a hour on the bike -- no problems here.

Yeah that's one of the first things I noticed on the new 250 compared to my ZZR 250.
The seat is much harder, doesn't seem as comfy but I personally like the sitting position better.

You could look into a Corbin seat for it I suppose.

Actually I think the foam is soft. It easily compresses and then you just feel the hard seat pan. The stock seat is garbage IMO. It also pushes you forward onto your crotch. The Corbin is much better but still not great.

At first I found the seat very hard, but I've gotten used to it. I can usually ride for about 90 minutes before I need to hop off and stretch my legs for a bit.

I find the more you ride the more you get used to the bike you're riding. If you can't ride for that long get a Corbin seat. If you want to experience a terrible seat and hard riding bike try a Harley Cafe.

Try putting your weight on the pegs and tightening your stomach when riding. This will remove most weight off of your behind but will take a bit of practice. It's the proper way to ride, in fact.

the seat is softer than the corbin is. but as everybody knows, the stock seat slides you forward and crushes your nuts. i found myself always having to push myself back.

if i had to choose between the two, i like my corbin better. wider base and more supportive... plus it doesn't slide you forward.

My hind quarters starts hurting after about 2 hours of riding. Once it reaches that point, it just plain hurts, no matter how much I stretch. I can stretch for a solid 5-10 minutes, but that isn't enough. I need more padding back there.

i'm having my seat redone and replacing the factory foam with softer foam. to my surprise the upholserer told me that gel would be too hard as i have a bony butt. i have a very thick gel set on my mtn bike and it feels wonderful but it hurts after a while, maybe the squishy feeling was a false sense of softeness. he's shaving all the foam off in my sitting area and putting an inch of this softer foam so it will also help lower me on the bike which i desperately need. he's only charging me $40 and all the bikers go to him. will see how this works out if not well i'll suck it up and buy the corbin.

Let me know. My boney butt needs help. So if that works, I'm all for doing the same.

yes...

but my commute is only about 20 min or so, so it doesn't bother me at the moment. When I first got my bike and was riding it to just be riding, it bothered me a lot, but shifting my weight around every few minutes and stopping at the redlights usually helped alleviate it. But for long rides or if I had a long commute, I would seriously consider getting another seat.

After riding for several hours, I always find myself having to shift my behind around a bit on the seat. I've got more aches in my back and my shifting hand, though. But I'm only riding for 2 weeks now, so I guess I'm going to get used to it.

I'm going to be riding all day today. I find that if you just keep riding your butt adjusts to the seat and you get used to it. I'm trying to get as many full days in before a 5000 miles trip at the end of June.

You guys should try the seat on my DR650.
Would make the seat on your 250's seem like a sofa.

I have a Corbin. It's much better than stock, but like Tim says it's still not perfect. CC Cowboy (in another thread long ago) suggested you should always be riding with the balls of your feet on the pegs (instead of your instep) for better control and I find this has helped me from sliding forward on either seat as it raises your knees a bit.

I finally got my bike back today. My butt's in heaven. It's so comfy. I forgot to ask what type of foam he use as he is not open on sundays but when i was first there he showed me a white not yellowish type of foam with compressed easily. He took the hard foam off up to about 3/4 of the way and put this 1" of this softer foam so it lowered me on the bike now all i need is to get new dogbone(lowering links) to have my feet flat on the ground. Hopefully i wont need to go over an 1". I'm happy with the results and all for $40 CDN. I was referred this uphulstery place from a bike shop.

I don't find the seat hard, just badly shaped, I don't like my little guys getting crushed into a hard surface...

I did another 5 1/2 hours today. Does this seat make my butt look big? Actually my wrist has been hurting more than my butt. Everything is getting easier though.

BlueRaven, I'm having a hard time reading your posts. I am glad your butt is in heaven though.
