A trip for the Dude, maybe?

I am totally not the kind of guy to steal anyone's thunder, so Matt if this seems like a douche thing to ask, let me know and I will drop the subject.

A few years ago my daughter bought me a little doll we call the Dude. She claims it looks like me. I have had it on my work desk since then, but since I bought the ninja he has been riding with me everywhere.

I have read, seen and participated in a couple of the traveling mascot type of events and always thought it would be cool to own an item with such sentimental meaning.

If it isn't stepping on anyone's toes, and there are some people that would like to do it, it would mean a lot and I think my daughter would get a kick tracking it as it goes around the country (world?).

If you are like me, you have a sharpie that is the same color as your bike and maybe we could sign him using our bike's color with our names/login names on the shirt that he wears, or maybe find a small doll backpack and keep a cloth scroll in it to sign.

Like I said, no toe stomping, so if it comes off as rude or douche-like, let me know and I will probably keep his travel within the family (quite a few riders in my entire family).

I am not sure what Matt's thoughts are on this but I would be more than honored to take your doughters maskot on some rides. Sign me up! If this becomes a reality PM me for my address.

Awesome! I guess we need a few more people to agree and we can figure out how he will travel. I was thinking maybe sending him around with a disposable camera and we can do hand-offs and the 2 people can pose with him. Or maybe just mail him and people take pics with him while they take rides and I can setup a blog to post all the pics on.

The wife thinks it's a good idea, and I spilled a little bit of the beans to my daughter, but not enough that she won't be surprised when she sees you guys holding up the Dude.

What are your thoughts on signing him? Sign him with bike matching sharpies, or the scroll idea, or any other suggestions would be welcome.

When it's my turn, I'll send a letter to your daughter from The Dude telling about this travels! Maybe I'll get lucky and have him during the Indy MotoGP!

That would be cool RC, I am sure we can arrange for him to be with you for that. Just let me know when and where in a PM and we can figure out if he will start his travels with you or work you in later. Maybe we can pass him along based on big events, rides, etc. that people have scheduled.
Steve, I think the Dude will be right at home with you, he is always seen rockin' those Hawaiian shirts.

Still no thoughts on signing him? I am only bugging about it because I am not sure what we would do if we ran out of shirt space

He can come visit me in Pittsburgh, would have to put him in a Steeler Jersey and no not BIG BEN but Heath Miller #83. I could take him to a univ. of pittsbugh football game and take his picture at Heinz Field.

My suggestion was handing it off to the next closest person. However, thinking about it, we might not have enough people to do that as the next closest person might be too far away.

I want to start setting it up though, I think that if anyone that wants to spend time with the Dude will PM me their location (not address, don't need it yet) and a delivery date, if you have a ride or event you would like to have him for, and I can start plugging people into a schedule.

I just re-read your post, Dave. I will start filling out a route for the Dude and will try to ship him out as early as possible this week so you can have him for Hell Trip.

So far my list is, in mailing order:
Scorpionninja (asap)
Dano
Snake
GFortunes
RC (by Aug 25th)
Komohana

There are a couple of huge gaps in geography (i.e. Dano(PA) to Snake(LA), and of course shipping to Komohana in HI) If you do not want to have to pay for shipping or need a little help with it and you have a paypal account, let me know when you are ready to pass him along and I can wire you some money though paypal.

I laid it out so he can continue his travels before getting to Indiana, where RC and GFortune can do a hand off to save money (depending on how close you are to each other) and he can go to the Indy MotoGP.

If you want him for a specific day let me know and we can get him out to you. We will, of course, make changes along the way as more people join in.

@Dave: PM your address to me so I can get him out asap for you.

We can sqeeze you in between Snake and GFortune, should be around the June-August time frame.

I am still trying to convince the wife to drive the truck herself and I can ride my ninjette for our trip to TX mid-June. If I get the go ahead then Dave can ship it back to me, I will take him to TX and from there I can ship him to Rick. Then maybe to PA, over to MO, back to IN, then off to HI from there.

Damn he is going to have an awesome trip! haha

A few pics after a bath in the washing machine and I found a messenger bag I took off of one of my daughter's toys.

There is a strip of canvas cloth I put in his bag to sign, and feel free to decorate him if you choose to, I pinned one of my old 3rd class crows on him. My daughter has a way of asking a question while making a statement and she said,"They're not gonna draw on his face." So feel free to color/draw on him, pin stuff on him, stickers, patches, etc. just do me a favor and don't mess with the front of his head.

If it's not raining tomorrow, I will get a shot of him on the ninja in front of the post office before his first trip.

ROFL! I cant wait!

When i read the OP, it made me think of a former co-worker.
He did a simular thing for his Neice, but it was called "Flat Stanley".

Flat stanley was taken to Russia, New mexico, NYC, and was at the 1998 (right?) Stanley Cup showing with the Detroit Red Wings!!!

Ill email you the PICs from HELL when I ASAP!

i think we could pull it off. personally i would be willing to drive 50 miles 1 way to pick it up from another ninjette, and 50 miles in the opposite direction to drop it off to the next ninjette ahead. I'm sure other's out there would do this.

on a side note, who is matt, and why would he be offended? i'm out of the loop on this one. is there another handoff type thing going on? can someone link the thread?
thanks

I need to be before winter too! Dano could probably pass it off to me or we could both go for a ride up to shanksville for the flight 93 memorial and possibly the quecreek mine site

Matt = http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=30701

My original plan was to hand it off, taking pics together as we do. Dave needs it pretty damn soon, so the Dude will travel my USPS to him. If we get enough people and everyone is cool with a little travel, I think it would be a much cooler experience for everyone involved.

Once Dave is done hangin' with him, we can figure out if anyone is close enough to take the trip out and hand him off.

Pictures can be sent to me via email, and once we get it started i will create a ninjette blog to follow his travels.

Scott, depending on when we can fit it in, I wouldn't mind riding up and meeting in the middle to do a hand off to you.
I don't think I will be taking the ninja to TX with me
Still working on the wife, maybe when I get back in early July we can set it up.

Update: Still raining here, hope it stops soon. I don't like riding in the rain, but I feel that the Dude should get a nice farewell for the start of his trip.

I could do a handoff in NYC with Matt at some point, and get it out to a rider in NJ, Upstate NY, Long Island, Pennsylvania, or Connecticut.

That might work Bill, Dano is in PA. I go on leave June 18th, if I get the Dude back before that I might be able to make the trip to hand it off to Scott, and the Dude can make his way up the east coast.

We'll figure it out, gotta see how long he hangs out with the group in Michigan first. Like I said, I might not get him before I leave, might be able to reverse the order though. We can get him shipped out to you and he can hang around the north east for a while and travel down the east coast back to me at some point.

EDIT: Let me check with the wife, she is suppose to be going to CT in the beginning of June to see her parents, I might be able to convince her to meet up with you and hand him off then. If it works out that way, my daughter would get a kick out of handing him off to someone instead of the postal worker.

It has begun!

I took the Dude to the post office to get all done up for his trip to Michigan.

I will be posting pics and updates as I get them to my new blog http://dudetravel.blogspot.com/.

Stop on by and have a look. It's short at the moment, but should pick up soon.
