Yeah, it's not like he can be replaced at this point. Maybe at one point, but not anymore.

The Dude has arrived safe and sound in Seattle, WA. I'm just finishing up some bike mods, and we're gonna go play tourist downtown. It's shaping up to be a NICE day outside. Not a cloud in the sky and already 60 degrees (at 08:00). So good photo ops should be abundant.

Oh, and if anyone is interested about the mods, I installed the diodes for my LED signals, mounted clips onto my ammo can panniers to attach a cargo net to hold down my duffel, and modified and installed a Motorola Droid vehicle mount (Plugs into the cigarette lighter I installed a while back) right above the speedo in that spot that looks like something should go their.

Handoff?

So I'm gonna be going through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California (debating doing 395 or 101, 395 looks awsome'er, but 101 has the Ocean) and Oregon (in that order). Is their anyone along that path who's interested in doing a hand-off of the The Dude? Or is he scheduled to go to a specific someone next?

If you take the 101 through CA, I live right at the beach in Ventura!

RC needs him by Aug 25th, so someone might need to cut it short, or possibly wait until after her turn if it gets close to that time.
I also plan on taking him for a ride in VA with a few of the closer members before I leave to CT which should be in Aug so I will probably take him for a few days in July and we can shift people around as things come up.

Komohana, I'm trying to save you for last because no matter what time of year you get him, it will be riding weather.

Talking Photo Updates

The dude at Safeco Field. Home of the Mariners. Formerly the King Dome if you're that old.

100_0395.jpg

The dude visits Pioneer Square. It's the old part of Seattle from back in the Pioneer/Gold Rush days. It's also where the Underground Seattle tours kick off. Seattle was built on top of itself back in the day.

100_0397.jpg

Dude at the Lusty Lady. A Seattle landmark. Finally going out of business. One of the few establishments of it's type to be owned and operated by a woman.

100_0401.jpg

Taken out of the sunroof of my roomies car, it's the Pikes Place Market. I hear this is one of the more famous landmarks ya'll would have heard about.

100_0403.jpg

And here is the SANITARY Public Market. Yeah. Right next to Pikes Place. I think maybe they sell Napkins. You know? But serious. I've always wondered about the place, but never gone into it.

100_0404.jpg

We finally get to the Seattle Center, home of the 1965 (I think) Worlds Fair. The electronic money takers for parking were broken, so we got to park for free! YAY!! But here's dude chillin' at the base of the Space Needle!

100_0405.jpg

Here are a couple shots of The Dude at EMP (Experience Music Project) which houses Music and Sci-Fi exhibits. The first shot includes the Monorail.

100_0406.jpg

100_0407.jpg

Here's The Dude at the Pacific Science Center where they have 2 IMAX theaters and MANY rotating, hands on, science exhibits. I spent a LOT of time their as a kid. The spires are seen from MANY blocks away and are a remnant of the Worlds Fair.

100_0408.jpg

I gotta stick these two pics together in photoshop. It's The Dude at once of the theatres spread around the Seattle Center that gets all sorts of shows put on at. Especially during "Bumbershoot" our big musical festival, where last time I went I saw the Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Ramones, and Mel Torme. Also home to "Folk Life" which was our Folk Music fair, but it's turned into more of a World Music fair now.

100_0410.jpg
100_0409.jpg

Dude at the fountain. During summer theirs usually kids playing all over it. But it's not summer here yet this year, so only a few kids.

100_0413.jpg

The Dude at the rear entrance to the Center House. Main building in the park, lots of shops and places to eat in their. I've always just really liked the eagles.

100_0415.jpg

Here is The Dude at Gasworks Park, overlooking Seattle and Lake Union. Gasworks Park used to make Synthetic Natural Gas back in the day. Some time after shutting down it was turned into a park.

100_0417.jpg

100_0421.jpg

Same spot but in the background is the Aurora bridge. Locally known as Suicide Bridge. One of the highest suicide rated bridges in America. Not a very good pick I'm afraid though.

100_0423.jpg

One of my fave shots of the day. Its one of the old Gasworks buildings in the park, looming big and menacing against the encroaching rain clouds.

100_0424.jpg

Here's another shot of the Seattle Skyline, with some Geese in the water and the sun setting rather nicely.

100_0427.jpg

This is a local favorite land mark. It was built under a bridge. The VW bug in his hand is REAL. That's The Dude, sitting up on his knuckle. The big guy is The Freemont Troll, and lives, of course, in Freemont. A burb of Seattle.

100_0428.jpg

And that's all the more pictures I got around to taking that turned out. I'll try to get more of the natural side of Seattle later in the week if I find the time.

My eyes! This board resizes pics automagically if you load them as attachments, but can't do anything with them if we hotlink to external pic sites. Pretty please get 'em down to a reasonable width so we all can enjoy 'em?

Blog updated. Amazing pictures Chris.

Anyone that is in route on your trip can feel free to take the Dude off your hands if you so wish to. His travels are going very smoothly even with last moment changes, so I don't see a problem with that.

can't wait to see more pics Chris. Don't forget to take all the other stuff in the box with you for a hand off and add to it with seattle souviners. Tabogons daughter should have some cool souviners from the dudes trips. When tabogon gets him back he should be able to download the pics off the flash drive so it can go out empty and available for more pics and keep the souviners so the dudes box don't get soo full.

Yep yep, just a couple more days and I head out. His home is already packed and on Bikebike ready to roll come Thursday morning. Already got the Seattle souviners, hoping to find some other good ones along the way. I'm all stocked up on batteries and looking forward to getting LOTS of pics.

I'm gonna be spending quite a bit of time away from Civilization so I'm not sure how often I'll be able to update with many pics as even with good coverage, phone tethering isn't very fast for uploading. So I'll probably save my uploading for my two hotel stays. 1 night on the 1st after my 12hr IronButt to Bozeman, MT and then three nights in Vegas the 11th, 12th, and 13th. And of course once I get home/work again by the 16th, 17th at the VERY latest as I work that night.

If anyone is interested, I'll be updating my Facebook with phone pics along the way using my phone. It doesn't take the best of pics, but it's easy to post with it. The email I use for Facebook is monkeyboy4269 AT gmail DOT com if you wanna follow along.

Hooowheee. Gonna be quite the adventuresome ride for the Dude!

Oh yeah, and I think USPS does a flat rate box for pretty cheap. If it gets too full, might just have to upgrade his condo.

Started the day out before the Sun did. The Dude offered to warm up my bike. So far I'm liking this day.
100_0430.jpg

We were barely on the western side of the Cascades (The entire trip is on I-90) when I had to make a stop, so we figured we'd take a shot. The Dude IS a ham for the camera.
100_0432.jpg

Same place(different angle) as the last one. The Dudes just helping with my cold weather gear. Frog Toggs worked out awesomely btw.
100_0434.jpg

Just some really pretty hills in the background still with snow. This is coming off the eastern side of the cascades.
100_0435.jpg

In these two we get a taste of Eastern Washington's flat lands. Quite the contrast from Western Washington.
100_0442.jpg
100_0444.jpg

Here are the others, but I'm too tired to label them all now. It turned out to be a 15 hour ride. I'm bushed. Going to sleep. If I don't finish 'em tomorrow it may be a while before I do since I'll be camping until the 12th. But don't worry, we'll keep taking pics of each other.

I gotta say I love this whole trip thing. And The Dude is awesome. I would be willing to help out. I can't do too much because of my area, not much is in northern Indiana, however if The Dude wanted to visit Notre Dame campus I got the hook ups.

I'm FINALLY back into a hotel. I'll upload picks before I leave. I wiped out once in sand a few days ago, and nearly bit the big one today at Grand Canyon South Rim. See this post. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=49859 So now I'm stuck in Flagstaff I think. But if I can find a tire by tomorrow and get it mounted, I'll be on the road again and back on schedule. I left myself a couple floater days just in case.

July 2nd. Yellowstone Park.

I don't know what I'm doing different, but it's become hard to get The Dude, and the background in focus at the same time. I've taken a lot more pics than this and put them on the key. I just don't wanna bog down the forums with TOO many pics. Anyway, here goes.

100_0463.jpg
Welcome to Yellowstone.

100_0464.jpg
Just really pretty.

100_0468.jpg
Mid Point Geyser. I thought this would be old faithful. It's not, but it's still pretty awesome.

100_0471.jpg
I LOVE this picture. Someone has to go back to the park and change the writing to a recipe for "Child Stew".

100_0472.jpg
At Old Faithful.

100_0477.jpg
Waiting on old faithful to blow. I filmed Dude and the eruption which really was quite amazing on my GoPro Hero HD, but all I got was a corrupted file that won't render. I think maybe it got too hot. I thought it was a good cap, so no Dude pics during the eruption.

100_0478.jpg
Hmm, makes you wanna bathe in it don't it? So nice and hot!

100_0479.jpg
Maybe a tad cooler.

100_0482.jpg
Heard of Buffalo. It's one of these bozo's that heard my deer whistle and tried to charge me. Ha ha, a Ninja IS faster than a pissed off Bison! Afraid theirs no Dude in the shot because that's mega zoomed. On the key is another shot of the Dude with the herd in the distance.

100_0484.jpg
I had planned to camp on Antelope Island, but didn't make it on time. So we camped out here. At a rest stop.

I'm beat. Think I'll stay here another night. I'll upload the next 7 days tomorrow.

Still need to update the blog, haven't really had time. Will try to this weekend. If too many pictures becomes a problem, you can send them to my email, I would just need to make sure to update the blog more often since everyone would have to go there to see the pics.

July 3rd. Antelope Island, Salt Lake City, and camping at Arches.

July 3rd The Dude took me to Antelope Island, Salt Lake City, and we got to Arches National Park just in time to camp in the dark.

100_0487.jpg
Just a nice view of Salt Lake from Antelope Island.

100_0511.jpg
Just another nice view.

100_0518.jpg
The Dude with some Buffalo. No antelope though. Curious.

100_0520.jpg
A zoom of the Buffalo.

100_0525.jpg
We couldn't stop close enough to the Temple to get any good pics, so here is a cool orthodox church we found a couple blocks away.

100_0534.jpg
Our first Oooh wow scene of Utah rocks.

100_0537.jpg
That's right, Seattlites bring the rain with us!

100_0549.jpg
Sunsets make GREAT rock pictures.

100_0551.jpg
Another Sunset/rock picture.

100_0553.jpg
It's a terrible picture, but this is our camp site. Lots of misquito's but it was SOOOooo far out their. We had to go up a 4x4 trail to get their.

July 4th. Arches National Park.

Most of the pics with The Dude didn't turn out that great, but here are a few. Arches was actually really awesome. I'd advise it to all. I weened the 75 shots down to this 10.

100_0556.jpg
Beautiful view to wake up to.

100_0558.jpg
Just down the gravel trail a little bit.

100_0569.jpg
Awesome fins. Don't think they have a name, but they're cool.

100_0581.jpg
A cool balanced rock.

100_0590.jpg
And awesome tree. Right next to some arches, but the tree was awesome.

100_0591.jpg
Some cool arch/caves.

100_0599.jpg
The arch next to those arch caves.

100_0605.jpg
The end of a 4x4's only trail we found. Dude is their on the back.

100_0616.jpg
Another awesome arch.

100_0624.jpg
This is the sandy road that the Dude insisted we go down. I didn't realize it was sand, so the instant we turned onto it, we hit the ground. Luckily it was nice deep soft soft and nothing got hurt.

July 5th, Canyonlands National Park

We spent the day at Canyonlands. Here are a few pics. This is more of a great place to hike/backpack. Not really so scenic up close, but from a viewpoint, it's killer.

100_0634.jpg
These three shots are from a scenic view point above wind whistle camp ground. My narrow lens SO couldn't do it justice. VERY beautiful. It would be amazing during sunrise.

100_0635.jpg
Same spot as before, different angle,.

100_0638.jpg
Yet another angle.

100_0645.jpg
Going into Canyonlands propper.

100_0649.jpg
All the rest are just random shots from CanyonLands, the ribbon is from the drunk chick at the mini-town within the park.

July 6th, Bryce Canyon National Park.

Bryce Canyon was one of my favorites. I could totally see staying here a few days just to get awesome Sunrise/Sunset pictures. The Sunset I was their for wasn't very amazing, because I had the rain following me to keep me cool. No amazing pictures of the sun setting, but the weather made my trip VERY enjoyable.

Doh, forums are acting funny. I'll edit in the pics in a while if the sites acting normal again. It may have to wait until Vegas.

Oooh, that's a good idea! Wish I woulda marked down my mileage before leaving. I just know I was at 3,xxx when I left. And am now barely over 6,000. I think I've put on almost half as many miles just discovering around for awesome camp sites as I have actually travelling! @@ We can track his air travel too, aka shipping.

Oh yeah, no more pics for a bit because I can't find any open wifi in this town. I can't belive how Super 8s have free wifi, but nobody near Ballys does. Cell strength isn't high enough for me to tether either.

Ceasers Palace is amazing btw. Tons of romanesque statues. So is "Paris". Paris has this rounded, blue sky ceiling so it looks like old Parisian streets inside.

July 6th, Bryce Canyon National Park

Here are my top ten pics of Bryce Canyon with The Dude.

It's not a natural arch, but it's still cool.
