Computer Power Supply?
Whats a good brand name to go with?? The PS on this computer took a dump, so I stole/borrowed one from the kids dell4700 that was in storage. Would like to put that PS back, they have some music programs on that computer.
Anyway, I purchased a Coarsair 450w. But Iam sending it back, has a crazy transistor whine when the computer is idle. Goes in and out as you do things, can left click and hold.... it goes away too This coarsair and the borrowed PS, the sata HD power connectors come in from the wrong direction, that kinda sucks. So anybody have suggestion... The inside of the dell that went belly up, looks 50 times better than the coarsair. Maybe should just go with factory dell?? |

I'm running a Seasonic X650 80+ Gold from Newegg. Really quiet, and the high efficiency rating means the fan doesn't even run until output is over 20%. It has a PWM fan that won't run 100% unless the system is really being thrashed.

So Iam looking over some thermaltake specs/pictures. The little 400w one has sata connectors where the wires come staight off the top, that wont work for closing the side cover. < the connectors for the HD's are right next to the cover, like no space there.
And the 500w one, has the sata connectors where the wire go right across the top, like at a 90. but from the wrong direction, guess thats gonna be the norm Funny thing is on the 500w, the specs for the output amps for all the volatages, are less than this little 305w one that broke will look up that seasonic next.......... |

Because the fan is at the rear of the 430w Thermaltake, you may be able to flip it upside down (if your case will allow it) which will move the wires. PSU's w fans on the bottom pretty much fit one way for the best cooling effect.

Just do what I do, go to Newegg and search through the PS's based on your needs. Read up on people's comments of them to see what others think of them so you can get an idea of how good the PS is built. If it's got a 2 star or less rating, then yah, don't bother. But if it's got a 4-5 star rating with like 100+ reviews, then it's usually a safe bet.

No, they rebrand PSUs. There are only a few actual makers, like Seasonic.
PC Power & Cooling (in Carlsbad, CA) had the absolute best PSUs for many years but you had to pay through the nose to get one but now they are owned by OCZ Technology Group and rebrand PSUs like everyone else. They demand higher-quality components from the supplier but they aren't the only ones. I own two PCP&C Turbo-Cool 1KW PSUs. The first one cost me a cool $529.99 + tax! |
