Temp light on gas gauge came on

Hey guys

So I was rising my bike this morning and the light came on like 3 minutes into my ride. It went away after 10 seconds, I was on the highway

I filled and drained the coolant system yesterday so maybe that might have something to do with it

I drained out coolant from the hole near the kickstand and poured coolant into the reservoir. I also opened the radiator cap near the throttle abs when I did that only then coolant drained out from the kickstand hole

My question is was I supposed to put coolant into that radiator cap? Because I did not do that

And would it be safe to drive 20.mins in traffic on my way home?

You only put it into the radiator cap. That plastic bottle on the left is for the overflow. It sounds like you might be low on coolant. To get home, just open the radiator cap and fill it with water if it's not full.

I would open the radiator cap (cool engine) and verify the level is reaching the neck or at least be visible.

If you cannot see any coolant, could you buy more coolant or distilled water and refill through that neck before re-starting the bike?

The plastic reservoir is only for excess of coolant to flow back into it.

There will often be pockets of air trapped in the cooling system when you drain it completely and refill it. You need to fill from the radiator neck (with the pressure cap -as noted) and run it for a minute or so with the cap off after filling to see if the level drops. The level will slowly rise as the engine heats up, but you may also see times where a bubble will rise and drop the level down. After running for a minute, while blipping the throttle moderately (2000 RPMs and back down), shut if off and let it set for a few minutes. Then top the radiator off and close the cap.

Then fill the coolant overflow tank up to the proper level ("cold").

After that, start it up and take it for a short ride - watching the temp gauge for safety. When you get back let it sit until it's completely cold. Remove the cap and confirm the radiator is full, then re-check the level in the overflow tank.
