New owner - first oil change
I'm doing my first oil change and wanted to clear something up. I'm following the instructions from another web-site shown below. This section regarding the drain plug mentions a washer, a crush washer and a gasket. Is there only supposed to be a crush washer? When I took the plug off I had a crush washer then a rubber gasket. I would have thought that having a rubber gasket over the crush washer would defeat the purpose of the crush washer. The picture with the tutorial does not show a gasket, but I want to be sure since the text does mention a gasket. The PO had the filter installed w/out the washer over the spring on the bolt so I'm not ruling out the possibility he used a gasket where he should not have.
"Make sure the drain plug washer is installed on the drain plug and tighten the drain plug to 14.5 ft/lbs (the same as the filter bolt). Use a new drain plug gasket (92065-097 GASKET, 12X22X2). Many people don't replace these every time, but they're cheap. Stock up. When you reuse the crush washer, you run the risk of oil seeping out around the already compressed crush washer. Why skimp on a $0.33 part (92065-097 from ronayers.com)? Two alternatives are Hyundai part #21513-23001 or Nissan #11026-01M02. " |

I did my first oil change this year, and my bike only had a crush washer. Now, I did have my bike's oil changed at the dealer twice before, so it's possible the mechanics didn't put it back.

Both the '88-07 and '08-11 models use the same crush washer. There isn't a separate gasket on the drain plug. The Oil filter cover has two o-rings.
